Comer of Virginia & Jones County



Samuel Comer of Lunenburg County, Virginia, died in Halifax County, Virginia in 1796, his LWT dated 1788.[1] Issue:[2]

  1. John Anderson Comer. Anderson Comer was found in Greene County, Georgia as early as 1791 when he made a deed to Jacob Gibson of Fairfield Co., S. C. for 100 pounds sterling, 287-1/2 acres of land on 12-Mile Beaverdam of Shoulderbone Creek adjoining lands of Samuel Reid on the Northeast and Turner on Southwest, granted said Comer on 1/15/1785.[3] On 1/26/1792 Anderson Comer of Greene County deeded to Shadrack Roe for 25 pounds sterling 122-1/2 acres of land on the headwaters of Sandy Run, Big Island Creek, adjoining lands of John Hudman, Samuel Barron, David Chriswell and John Roe.[4]

  2. Hugh Moss Comer, born 1760 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, died 13 May 1836 Jones County, Georgia, buried in the Comer Cemetery.

  3. Anderson Comer, born ca 1762 in Halifax County, Virginia.

  4. James Thomas Comer, born ca 1764 in Halifax County, Virginia, Revolutionary War Soldier, died 1837 Jones County, his LWT dated 28 April 1837, probated 24 July 1837. Wife, Nancy G. Issue:
    • Nancy Comer married Nathaniel Renfroe on 8 June 1813 in Jones County.
    • Isabell Comer married Samuel Bond on 31 August 1819 in Jones County.
    • Polly Comer married (1) James E. Newby on 5 February 1824 in Jones County, and, (2) P. G. Rose. Issue: Samuel, James, William and Catherine Newby.
    • Caroline Comer married McCuller Springer on 9 January 1834 in Jones County.
    • Harriet Comer married Spencer Thomas on 25 February 1836 in Jones County.
    • Emeline Comer.
    • William Comer. Codicil of his fathers LWT (13 March 1837) states that "William is now deceased".
    • James Comer.
    • Marcus Comer, born 1805, listed on the 1880 Muscogee County Census.
    • John J. Comer.
    • Jackson Comer.
    • Washington Comer.
  5. Rebecca Comer, born 1766/1769 in Halifax County, Virginia, died 1789.
