Humphrey Collins
Humphrey Collins was born 17 September 1835 in South Carolina, died 17 September in Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia, buried Dallas City Cemetery. Various census records reflect that he was born in South Carolina and North Carolina, with most references preferring South Carolina. I have personally searched all the S. C. Census Records for 1850, and do not find him listed as a child. However, I do believe that he was in Georgia at that time, and that his father (or both parents) were deceased. To back-up my theory, an 1845 marriage of Peggy Ann Collins to Moses Singleberry. Also, the 1850 Paulding County Census listed a 17-year old laborer, Aaron Collins. Humphrey married 20 October 1853 in Paulding County to Miss Elizabeth Bone (born 1840 Madison Co., Ga, buried before 1885 in Dallas City Cemetery). I examined the estate of Moses Singleberry for some mention of the Collins, but did not find anything. It's possible that Peggy Ann Collins was Humphrey's mother, and was re-marryied. Either Humphrey was skipped on the 1850 Paulding Co. Census, or he was farmed out to a family somewhere.
Humphrey Collins enlisted into Confederate service during the War Between the States, and fought in one of its hottest battles - the Battle of New Hope Church, in Dallas.
