Cobb of Wilkinson County

Matthew Cobb was b. ca 1828 and m. ca 1850 in Wilkinson Co., GA, Cordilia Stevens, b. 1832. The exact marriage date cannot be determined, because the record is damaged.

Matthew Cobb was not listed on the 1860 or 1870 Georgia Census. I searched at length to locate him, because this would absolutely prove that he was the father of William Richard Cobb. At this time, I believe that he was a resident of Wilkinson Co. In 1860, but just not listed. By 1870, William Richard Cobb was living with the John Nichols family in Wilkinson Co., age 16.

According to Jeffrey Lynn Beasley, P. O. Box 1014, Andalusia, AL 36421, Matthew Cobb was the father of William Richard Cobb of Wilkinson Co. I searched the deeds, estates, etc. of Wilkinson Co., but found nothing.

At this point, I will just deal with William Richard Cobb, and his children:

I. William Richard Cobb b. 2/11/1854 Wilkinson Co., d. 9/3/1906 Wilkinson Co., GA, buried in the Hardie Chapel Cemetery (Nichols Lot), Wilkinson Co. He m. Malissa Nichols, the daughter of John Nichols (b. 1827) and his wife, Rachel Witt (b. 1835) who were residents of Wilkinson Co. 1860-1870 Census. He worked on the Nichols farm when he was sixteen years old, so he married one of the daughters. Malissa, also buried in Hardie Chapel Cemetery, was b. 1/27/1854 Wilkinson Co., GA and died 4/12/1921 Wilkinson Co. Issue:

D. Minnie Cobb b. 1881 Wilkinson Co., GA m. Richard Hawthorne.

E. Lula Cobb b. 1883 Wilkinson Co., GA m. Willie Kennington.

F. Alonzo Lawrence Cobb b. 1885 near Gordon, Wilkinson Co., GA m. Ola Hardie.

G Arthur Aubury Cobb b. 2/8/1886 Wilkinson Co., GA, d. 3/22/1938 Wilkinson Co., GA., buried Hardie Chapel Cemetery, m. Theresa B. Hawthorne, daughter of Robert S. Hawthorne and his wife, Fannie King.

H. Nancy Pearl Cobb b. 11/4/1890 near Gordon, Wilkinson Co., GA m. 6/28/1908 Wilkinson Co., GA, William Wesley Taylor.
