COATS
Nathaniel Coats was b. ca 1734 m. Martha Lamar. He was High Sheriff in Wilkes County in 1786, and Collector of the Tax. He died 1816, his LWT dated 11 Jan 1816, probated 4 May 1816 Wilkes Co. (Will Book HH, 1810-1816), naming his children and granddaughter, Patsy L. Chatfield. Lesley Coats was named Executor.
Wilkes Co. Deed Book HH, p. 282, 25 May 1790, Nathaniel Coat deeded to Benjamin Holmes 250 acres on both sides of dry fork of Rocky Creek, being an original land grant in 1785 to said Coats.
Wilkes Co. Deed Book GG, p. 107, Nathaniel Coats of Wilkes Co. deeded Robert Wells, planter, 200 acres on Soap Creek, sold at public outcry on 3 Nov 1786, bought by Charles Duke and his claim now relinquished to said Robert Wells, property of Phillemon Franklin against whom Stephen Heard and Thomas Duke obtained judgment on 7 Apr 1786. Dated: 27 May 1790.
Nathaniel must have married again, because he named wife, Lucinda, in his LWT. Issue:

Lesley Coats was born ca 1736 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died 1808 in Wilkes Co., Georgia. He apparently resided in Wilkes County from about 1790. Wilkes Co. Deed Book GG, p. 118, 3 Aug 1790, Lesley Coats, Planter, to Seaborn Jones, Attorney in Richmond County, 175 acres of land located in Greene County. He died 1808, when his widow, Drucilla Coats and John Coats were appointed administrators of his estate. Minutes of Inferior Court, Wilkes Co., p. 188, 1802-1812). Wilkes County Inventories and Estates, Book LL, p. 154, Estate of Lesley Coats, Sale of Estate, p 170, John Coats, admr. Drucilla Lesley, Sarah and John, purchasers. Seven distributees were named in Wilkes Book NN (1811-1812), Inventories, Sales, etc., p. 11-78, 8 Nov 1810. "Deceased has been dead for two years." Widow, Drucilla Coats was named as well as distributees (Heirs) as follows: Peter Harris, Lesley Coats, John Coats, Francis Coats, Samuel Barron, Jacob Cain and Benjamin Sherod as Guardian of Lesley and Frances Coats, Fanny and Sally Coats.
Drucilla died 1827 in Wilkes County. John B. Lennard was appointed admr of her estate on 5 Mar 1827, p. 114, Minutes of Inferior Court, Wilkes Co. (1822-1827). The returns on her estate paid for the plantation and grant in Lee County. "To sale of Lot 14, 20th District, Lee County."

I. Daughter who married Peter Harris, lived in Henry Co. in 1830.
II. Lesley Coats married Emily D. Eidson 24 Nov 1816 Wilkes Co. He was a minor in 1808. Thomas R. Eidson appointed guardian of his minor children on 1 March 1830 in Wilkes Co (Estate of Lesley Coats, deceased). Issue:

III. John Coats m. Elizabeth Williams 16 Dec 1819 in Wilkes Co.

VII. Elizabeth L. Coats m. Jacob Cain. His LWT dated 23 Feb 1820, probated 24 August 1824 Wilkes Co. named wife, Elizabeth L., leaving her his plantation and "land on Little River on which I formerly lived to be sold for the education of five children: Jacob N. L., Hary W., Caroline, John M. and Miram Matilda Ann, children of my wife, Elizabeth." Also, 490 acres of land on the St. Illa River in Wayne Co., Georgia to go to his children: James B. Cain, Lucy W. Harrison, Sarah O. Cain, Elizabeth P. Miller and Patsy J. Sherror.
