Clarke
Elijah Clarke, a Georgia General during American Revolution, became famous for his victory over the British at the Battle of Kettle Creek. He was born 1733 in North Carolina, died 15 Jan 1799 Lincoln Co., Ga. He m. Hannah Harrington in 1774. They lived in Wilkes County, which later became Lincoln County, on a plantation called
Woodburn, and this is where he is buried.
Elijah Clarke made his LWT in Lincoln Co., Ga., dated 3 March 1799, Book A, p. 131, naming his children and wife, Hannah. Exrs: Benajah Smith, Edwin Mounger and Charles Williamson.

II. Gibson G. Clarke, minor in 1799, lived Butts Co., Ga. ca 1825.
III. John Clarke, born 28 Feb 1774, died 26 Oct 1832 m. Nancy Williamson (1 May 1774-26 Oct 1832), the daughter of Micajah Williamson and his wife, Sarah Gilliam (Sarah Gilliam was the daughter of William Gilliam and his wife, Mary Jarrett). John Clarke was the Governor of Georgia 1819-1823. He later removed to St. Andrews Bay, Florida.
Southern Recorder 8 Nov 1832: "Died on October 12th at his residence on St. Andrews Bay, Fla. in his 69th year, Gen. John Clarke, formerly of Georgia, while engaged in getting out live-oak he was attacked with bilious fever on St. Vincent Island and was taken home in a small boat where he lingered until the evening of the 12th of October when he died." IV. Fanny Clarke m. Edwin Mounger, son of Henry Mounger, the elder, (deceased 1790, Wilkes Co.) Edwin was Clerk of the Court of Ordinary in Wilkes Co. in 1796. He lived in Louisville, Ga in 1800.
V. Daughter who married J. W. Walton.
VI. Daughter who married Jesse Thompson.

General Elijah Clarke
Folder Augusta Chronicle and Gazette of the State 21 Dec 1799: "On 15th inst., at a mature age, Elijah Clarke, Esq., late a Major- Patriot General in the service of this State
a soldier from nature and a patriot from principle, early in the Revolutionary War he decided on the part he should take and it was due to his exertions that the western frontiers of the two States were kept secure and the Indians kept in awe."

Wilkes County Minutes of Inferior Court (1801-1812), p. 133, March Term 1818, Charles Williamson made Bond for title to the land on Long Creek known as Clarke's Station, to Fanny Clarke, which land was assigned to Edward Mounger, who intermarried with said Fanny, to Benajah Smith who asks for clear titles.
