Chapman of Liberty County



William Chapman, Revolutionary War Soldier, served as a Private under Capt. Uriah Goodwyn, 3rd South Carolina Regiment. He was at the siege of Charleston; and received 287-1/2 acres in Franklin County for his service.

John Chapman, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born 1746 in South Carolina. He came to Richmond County, Georgia and enlisted in the Georgia Troops; was a sergeant of the Minute Men in Wilkes County; received a land grant in 1784. He married in 1768 Mary Thompson, born 1749, died before 1819. John Chapman died in Warren County in 1818. His known children: Nathan Chapman, born 11 February 1777 in South Carolina married Elizabeth Hart (born 30 January 1780), the daughter of Samuel Hart, Revolutionary War Soldier of Georgia and his wife, Susanna Boring; Benjamin Chapman married Susanna Hart; Thomas Chapman married Sarah Hart; William Chapman and John Chapman. The 1803-1832 Wilkes County Land Lotteries list John Chapman made one draw and Nathan Chapman made 2 draws. In the Wilkes County Original Papers, estate of Daniel Tucker, Receipts were given by Sarah Tucker for her part of the estate of her husband and of John Chapman, in right of his wife, Sarah, on 8 February 1806.

Francis John Chapman was born 1779 in South Carolina. He married Mary Lee (born 1790 in South Carolina on 16 December 1806 in Liberty County. Issue:

  1. Kiziah Chapman born 1809, married Mr. Westberry, who was deceased in 1850. Issue:
    1. Albert Westberry, born 1818.
  2. John Chapman, born 1810, married Elizabeth Delk (born 18180 on 16 February 1837 in Liberty County. Issue:
    1. Martha E. Chapman, born 1838.
    2. Francis J. Chapman, born 1839.
    3. David F. Chapman, born 1840.
    4. Samuel Chapman, born 1842.
    5. Budd Chapman, born 1845.
    6. Mary Chapman, born 1846.
    7. Elizabeth A. Chapman, born 1848.
    8. Columbus Chapman, born July 1850 Liberty County.
  3. Shelton M. Chapman, born 1829, laborer.
