THOMAS JEFFERSON BURNEY
THOMAS JEFFERSON BURNEY was b. 4/29/1801 in Greene Co., Ga., the son of John W. and Elizabeth (Walker) Burney, grandson of Daniel Burney and Sylvanus Walker. In 1818 he removed to Cahaba, Alabama, then Mobile. He returned to Georgia to study law before going to Worchester, Virginia. Entered law practice with his brother, John Burney, at Monticello, Jasper Co., Ga., and for many years was a Justice of the Inferior Court of Morgan Co., Ga. In 1829 he m. Cordella Walker. He was Executor of the LWT of Sylvanus Walker of Monroe Co., dated 7/10/1827, probated 9/4/1830. Children:
- Samuel A. Burney b. 4/26/1840 Madison, Morgan Co., Ga., m. 1860 Sarah E. Shepherd, having six children. Samuel graduated from Mercer University in 1860, becoming a teacher in Madison, Ga. In 1861, he enlisted in the war, fighting at battle of Fought at Fredericksburg May 3, 1863, where he lost an eye.
