Bruce of Thomas County

Dr. Robert Bruce, surgeon, was a graduate of the University of New York. He was born 17 September 1817 in Georgia and died 22 May 1880 in Thomas County. He was married on 4 July 1852 in Thomas County to Rebecca Mitchell, a daughter of Thomas Goodwin Mitchell and his wife, Elizabeth Chancy Alston Mitchell. Rebecca was born 18 Oct 1829 in Georgia, died Feb 1908 in Thomas County. Issue:

• William Wallace Bruce, physician, born 1 Sept 1855 in Thomas County, died 4 Oct 1926.
• Elizabeth Sarah Bruce, born 10 Sep 1857 in Thomas County, died 23 Aug 1904.
• Archie Bruce, born 6 Sep 1865 in Thomas County, died 27 Jul 1880 in Thomas County.

Dr. Robert Bruce, the only surgeon in Thomas County during the Civil War.
