Briscoe of Columbia and Walton Counties
Waters Briscoe was born 1792 in Columbia County and died 1876 in Walton County. He was married on 27 Jul 1826 in Columbia County to Martha W. Wellborn, a grand-daughter of the Rev. Daniel Marshall who in 1772 founded the First Baptist Church in Georgia on Kiokee Creek, twenty miles from Augusta. Waters Briscoe was one of the first honor graduates of the University of Georgia. His daughter, Virginia Briscoe was married to George Selman who owned over 6,000 acres in Walton County.
