Breedlove of Virginia; Greene & Jones Counties



Benjamin Breedlove of Virginia, died 1793 in Greene County, Georgia. He was the son of James Breedlove, Jr. and his wife, Lucrecy. Benjamin was married in 1759 to Mary Watkins (died 1787 in Georgia), a daughter of William Watkins and his wife, Martha (Herndon) Watkins. Issue:[1]

  6. Frances Breedlove, born 1766 in Virginia, died 4 September 1841 in Clinton, Jones County, Georgia.
  7. Nathan Breedlove was born ca 1773 in Virginia, died 18 July 1829 in Georgia, his LWT dated February 1829, probated 6 July 1829 in Jones County. Issue:
  1. Leonard F. Breedlove, born 1803 in Jones County, died 9 Aug 1864 in Taylor County, Georgia. He was married three times. During the 1830s he became a prosperous planter in Talbot County as well as the owner of the Franklin House, a hotel in Talbotton, from 1838 to 1840. He was secretary of the Southern Musical Convention from 1845 to 1850, and a member of the 1850 Sacred Harp songbook revision committee. He contributed two tunes to the 1844 Sacred Harp songbook and ten tunes to the appendix of the 1850 Sacred Harp songbook.
