BRANTLEY of Virginia and Chatham County, Georgia
Edward Brantley was born 1622 in England, d. 30 Mar 1688, Isle of Wight Co.,Va (his LWT dated 1688-9). The first record of him in Virginia is when he was transported by John Seaward (who was granted 400 acres in the Isle of Wight County on June 18, 1638).
On October 30, 1669, Edward Brantly was granted 675 acres in the Isle of Wight County, near Mr. England and the "dancing place", through a pocoson, by Mr. Tookes to the Ashen Sw., near Hen. White's old Cart Path to the Mill, for transporting 14 persons. (Patent Book 6). Issue:
- Mary Elizabeth Brantley.
- John Brantley (1682-1730) Isle of Wight Co., Va., his LWT dated 1731.
- Edward Brantley (1648-1721), his LWT dated 1721 Isle of Wight Co., Va. Edward Brantley was granted 400 acres (Patent Book 10) in Isle of Wight County, near Sapony old Fort, by the Maherin River on March 1717 for diverse services performed in making the new settlement for the Saponie Indians at Christanna, pursuant to a treaty with this Nation.
Again, on March 24, 1725, Edward Brantley was granted 140 acres in the Isle of Wight County, on the north side of the Flatt Sw, corner of Anthony Frankoes land, on a mill pond by the Great Reedy Branch. (Patent Book 12).

On February 22, 1724, Philip Brantley, Jr. was granted 80 acres in the Isle of Wight County, Virginia, on the southside of the main Black Water Sw., on the east side of the Cedar SW., and on the north side of Poley's I'land pocason, adj. Richard WIlliams' land. (Patent Book 12). 1/4/1786, Warren Co., Receipt of Thomas Brantley and Philip Brantley in Wilkes Co. on Est. of Daniel Coleman. Philip's LWT dtd 3/18/1819, pvd 6/7/1824, Warren Co., Ga. named wife,Polly and children, except Philip, who pre-deceased him. Issue:

est. of William Phillips, with Piety Phillips and John Ogletree, admrs, 1/7/1795, Wilkes Co., Ga. Jesse Brantley also found later in deed records of Morgan Co., along with Joshua. Joshua had a dau., Piety, and his mother might have been Piety Phillips, a 1st marriage of his father. There are many Morgan Co. deeds for Joshua, dating from 1805 to 1812; also Walton Co. deeds dating from 1820 to 1848. Wayferers in Walton, P. 329: "Trustee of Pleasant Grove Academy in 1837, Joshua Brantley." Joshua was in Wilkes Co. 1795; Clarke Co. before 1803; Morgan Co. 1808; and Walton Co. by 1819 where he lived until his death in 1854. His widow purchased some land from Thomas Hunter 10/6/1854, Walton Co.,Bk R,P. 201, also-Temperance Brantley to John Brantley, 12/29/1856 Walton Co. Ga. Joshua's LWT recorded Bk J, Walton Co.
