Blalock of Fayette and Clayton Counties
Zaddock Blalock was born 1784 in Rowan County, North Carolina and died 1864 in Fayette County, Georgia. He was married to Margaret Ann Lewis who died 1923 in Fayette County. They had sons, Zaddock Braxton Blalock (1823-1882) of Fayette County and Jesse Lewis Blalock.
Jesse Lewis Blalock was born 6/7/1817 in North Carolina and died 10/3/1893 in Fayette County. His occupation was that of an attorney. In 1880, the family was residing in Fayette County, but in 1890, he purchased the home located at 155 S. Main Street in Jonesboro from J. F. Johnson, who built it in 1859. The two-story colonial-style home was decorated with eight large columns in the front. This Blalock family was the first of five generations to occupy this home. The home was used as a hospital during the War Between the States for the Confederate Army.
Jesse Blalock was married in 1850 Campbell County to Catherine Camp, born 1825 in Campbellton, Georgia and by her had three children viz:
- Cory Maud "Carrie" Blalock.
- Eugene M. Blalock, born 7/24/1851 Fayette County, died 9/30/1907 in Jonesboro, Clayton County, buried in the Jonesboro City Cemetery.
- James Oscar Blalock, born 5/17/1853 in Fayette County, died 5/11/1931 in Clayton County. He was married on 11/9/1881 in Fayette County to Lula Annie Walker (1861-1929), a daughter of James Matthew Walker and his wife, Mary Lavonia (Dorsey) Walker. All of their children were born in the upstairs bedroom of the (above) home in Jonesboro. Issue:
- Jesse Lewis Blalock, born Fayetteville.
- Mary Lavonia Blalock, born 1/3/1889 Fayetteville, died 2/2/1891.
- Jesse Walker Blalock 6/15/1884-1884, died Fayetteville.
- Lizzie Frank Blalock 6/20/1886-8/19/1903 Fayetteville.
- James Mathew Blalock 12/2/1891-27/1923 Fayetteville.
