Bittick of Monroe County



John Goodrum Bittick was born ca 1860 in Monroe County. He married 19 December 1882 in Monroe County, Jennie Bob Simmons (born 21 February 1863, died 26 June 1936 Monroe County), a daughter of Robert Simmons and his wife Elizabeth (Chambliss) Simmons. John Bittick owned and lived at the Tanner place in Cabaniss, later removing to Forsyth where he had business enterprises. Issue:[1]

  1. Robert Cyrus Bittick, born ca 1884 Monroe County, married Mattie Nixon.

  2. Eula Grace Bittick, born ca 1886 Monroe County, married Arthur Sasser.

  3. Pollie Joe Bittick, born ca 1887 Monroe County, married Sarah Haygood.

  4. John Goodrum Bittick, Jr., born ca 1890 Monroe County.

  5. Lawson Cary Bittick, born 10 August 1894 Monroe County, died 29 November 1953 in Monroe County, married on 25 February 1926, Ruth Thompson (born 25 March 1899 in Athens), the daughter of William Allen and Almeda (Draper) Thompson. Issue:
  1. Katherine Pope Bittick married Herbert C. Dozier.
  2. Lawson Cary Bittick, Jr., Sheriff in Monroe County.
  3. Barbara Ruth Bittick married Claude N. Maddox.
  4. Corr Bittick, editor of the Macon Telegraph and News (1957); editor of the Monroe Advertiser (1958); President of the Monroe County P. T. A. 1944-45.
