Bird of Edgefield County, South Carolina



Solomon Bird died December 1810 in Edgefield County, South Carolina, his Last Will and Testament dated 10/2/1810, probated 12/7/1810. Wife, Nancy. Children named: Easther Smith, Rachel Jourdan, Mary Bird, Ebone Bird, Elijah Bird, John Bird and Billons Bird. Rachel Bird was born 1790 and married Jesse Jordan of Edgefield County. Nancy Bird gave a Deed Gift (Edgefield County Deed Book 35, page 267) to John Bird's children, "to my grandchildren. "The lawful representatives of my son, Eborn Bird, by his now living wife, Sarah, and all he may have by his wife, Sarah, a Negro girl named Ader and horse named Dick. Date blank, however, this deed was November 1818.

Edgefield County Deed Book 28, page 194. Solomon Bird to Jordan Holloway 1/2/1807 for $250.00, 100 acres on Mountain Creek of Turkey Creek of the Savannah River adjoining John Mitchel, Elijah Smith, John Berry and Jordan Holloway, being a part of 500 acres originally granted to James Simpson, Esquire on 8/20/1772.

Edgefield County Deed BOok 29, page 512. Solomon Bird sells to James A. Moore on 7/19/1809 for $300.00, 96 acres on Mountain Creek of Turkey Creek of the Savannah River, on the line of John Mitchell, being part of two tracts of land granted to James Simpson, Esquire on 8/20/1772 and November 1772.

Solomon Bird resided on Turkey Creek near the home of Jesse Jordan. The creek flows into the Savannah River, so must be near Augusta. Children:

  1. Easther Bird married Smith.
  2. Rachel Bird married Jesse Jordan.
  3. Mary Bird.
  4. Ebone Bird.
  5. Elijah Bird. Edgefield County Deed Book 8, pp. 95-97, on 4/5/1793, Francis Bremar of Charleston, South Carolina deeds to Elijah Bird of Edgefield County, South Carolina, for 40 pounds, 150 acres originally survyed on 5/17/1771 for James Gunnells, etc. on Long and Turkey Creek adjoining North East by Robert Osborn at the time of survey. Deed Book 32, page 5. Nancy Bird, widow of Elijah Bird, Sr. deeds to Josiah Taylor on 4/6/1814 for $200.00, 83 acres, it being the widow's dowry belonging to the estate of Elijah Bird on Turkey Creek and Log Creek where Elijah Bird formerly lived.
  6. John Bird.
  7. Billons Bird.
