Battle of Greene & Taliaferro Counties



Jesse Battle was born on 8 July 1738 in Hertford County, North Carolina, died 25 August 1805 in Hancock County. He was a patriot during the American Revolution, furnishing supplies to the American troops. Afterwards, he removed to Georgia in 1787. He married in 1756 Susanna Faucette (Forsett), born 1738 in France, died Hancock County 8 May 1819. Issue:

I. John Battle. Issue:
A. William Sumner Battle, born 26 October 1761 in Nansemond County, Virginia, died 1828 in Taliaferro County, Georgia. His LWT dated 22 December 1826, probated 1 September 1828 in Taliaferro County. He served during the American Revolution as a soldier in the Georgia Troops. He came to Greene County (now Hancock). He was married in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to Sarah Whitehead (born 9 March 1766 in North Carolina), the daughter of Lazarus Whitehead. Issue:

  2. Jesse Brown Battle.
  3. Selina Countes Battle married (1) Albert Bunkley (2) Richard Ferton.
  4. John William Battle married (1) on 22 December 1819 in Greene County, Elizabeth Atkinson (2) Miss Asbury (3) Sidney Lane Tuggle.
  5. Mary Hale Battle married Herman Mercer. Issue: Susan Battle Mercer.
  6. Serena Ragan Battle married William Stroud.
  7. Lazarus Whitehead Battle married Nancy Chevers.
  8. Susan Faucette Battle married Colonel William Henry Long.
  9. Sarah Whitehead Battle married Christopher Anthony Carter. She died 1811 in Texas.
  10. Bennett Battle, died young.
  11. Betsy Battle, died young.
II. Benjamin Battle married Christian Wyatt.

III. Priscilla Battle.

IV. Bathsheba Battle.

V. Lewis Battle.

VI. Jesse Battle.

VII. Susan Faucette Battle married (1) John Ragan (2) Mr. Fairchild.

VIII. Mary Battle (1774-1843) married in 1793 William Rabun. Their child was Governor of Georgia in 1819.

IX. Lazarus Battle married (1) Miss Cook (2) Margaret (Porter) Fannins.

X. Isaac Battle married Martha Rabun.

XI. Reuben Taylor Battle (1784-1805) married Bethia Alexander.
