William Bass was b. ca 1648, d. 10/1695 Henrico Co., Va., LWT dtd 4/20/1695 Henrico Co., Va. Wife, Hester. Order Bk 1678-93, Henrico Co., Hester Bass, probate gtd her and William Bass, 10/1/1695, Est. of William Bass, decd. Issue of William Bass follows:

II. William Bass, b. ca 1690, Dale Parish, Henrico Co., Va., d. in Chesterfield Co., Va. LWT pvd 2/27/1746 Chesterfield Co., Va. WB I, P. 115. According to Bible of William Bass, he m. Cecilia, dau. of Christopher Branch and Ann Sherman on 10/8/1718, gr-dau of Christopher Branch (1602-1681), the immigrant to Va. abt 1620, a Member of House of Burgesses who m. in 1639 Mary Adder. Issue of William Bass follows:
  1. Christopher Bass, b. 3/5/1720, LWT dtd 11/8/1772 Chesterfield Co., Va., naming w., Frances, bequeathing the plantation in Dale Parish. Issue: William, Christopher, Mary, Edward and Joseph. last two named as his brothers).
  2. Archard Bass, b. 1/31/1725 Chesterfield Co., Va.
  3. Thomas Bass, b. 1723, d. bef 1727.
  4. Thomas Bass, b. 3/23/1727 or 1728 Chesterfield Co., Va., died before 1747.
  5. Edward Bass, b. 7/31/1730 Chesterfield Co., Va.
  6. Joseph Bass, b. Chesterfield Co., Va.
  7. Peter Bass, b. 12/23/1723 Chesterfield Co., Va.

1. Burwell Bass, b. ca 1761 Brunswick Co., Va., d. 5/1821 Hancock Co., Ga., his orphans drawing in 1827 land lottery from Hancock Co., inv. of his estate filed 6/1/1821 Hancock Co. Bk L, P. 38. Burwell Bass m. Betsy Harper 2/8/1810 Hancock Co., a dau. of Mary Harper who died March Term 1840 Hancock Co. leaving LWT naming her grandchildren. viz: Nancy Bass, Benjamin Bass, exr., Ingram Bass, WB P, P. 440-441. Burwell Bass was a Revolutionary War Soldier, per Order Bk I, P. 8, Greenville Co., Va.: "The Courts Valuation of Property, impressed for the use of public in Greenville County, Virginia, during the latter period of the Revolutionary War. One gun, Burwell Bass, #5.15.7-1/2, March 12, 1782." Burwell Bass listed on 1790 Greenville Co., Va. Census, 4 whites, ten blacks. Issue: Nancy and Benjamin Bass.

2. William S. Bass, b. 5/10/1763 Chesterfield Co., Va., according to Rev. War Pension Application dtd 8/15/1832, at PONhatan Co., Va. He resided in Chesterfield until eighteen or nineteen years old, when he went to Powhatan County. He m. Sarah Shackleford 10/1789. Sarah was aged 69 at the time of his application. William d. 5/10/1839. John Bass, then aged 81, was present at his marriage. Nancy Sublett, aged 67, was a sister of Sarah.

3. James Bass, b. 8/1760 Norfolk Co., Va., Rev. War Soldier, made his Pension Application dtd 11/12/1832, a resident of Bedford Co., Tennessee, aged 72 years.

7. Edmund S. Bass, b. ca 1777 Va., d. 5/1843 Hancock Co., Ga., his LWT dtd 5/30/1842, Bk Q, Hancock Co. Estates, P. 53; Codical dtd 2/5/1843. Wife, Elizabeth. Listed on 1820 Hancock Co., Ga. Census. Memoirs of Georgia, P. 1027: "A. S. Bass, depot agent and storekeeper, Hancock County ,(died 1883); Mr. Bass comes from good old Virginia stock, from which is grandfather, Edmund Bass, emigrated when in his teens. Mr. Bass' father married a Miss Ingram (died 1869) and settled in the western part of the county where he reared a family of four sons and five daughters. Milton married Ann Culver; Hardy C.; W. H., Macon; A. S.; Carrie G. (widow of J. W. Mote); George E., died Federal Prison during the war; Wesley. ..." Edmund S. Bass recd land grant in 1824 of 9 acres in Hancock Co. Hancock Co. DB I, P. 308, Francis Moreland to Edmund S. Bass. He also drew in 1827 land lottery from Hancock Co., along with other bros. Issue follows:

j. Edmund S. Bass, b. 1810 Hancock Co., Ga. m. Esther Whitehurst. Nov. 1, 1832, Southern Recorder published: "In Wilkinson County on 25th, Edmund S. Bass, Jr. of Hancock County m. Esther Whitehurst, the daughter of Charles Whitehurst." Edmund S. Bass died ca 1859 in Houston Co., Ga. Listed on 1850 Houston Co. Census, farmer. Issue: Elizabeth b. 1834 Hancock Co.; Eliza Jane b. 1838 Hancock Co., d. 1913; Charles Bass, b. 1842 Hancock Co.; and Josiah Bass, b. 1844, Hancock Co., Ga.

That Sarah above married Thomas Friend, Jr. 25 Oct 1761 and she died Oct. 1827 in Chesterfield Co., VA.

Burwell Bass (c 1747-c1787) was a Revolutionary War Soldier, per Order Bk I, P. 8, Greenville Co., Va.: "The Courts Valuation of Property, impressed for the use of public in Greenville County, Virginia, during the latter period of the Revolutionary War. One gun, Burwell Bass, #5.15.7-1/2, March 12, 1782." This is another Burwell/Burrell Bass who died in Greensville Co., VA (Greensville Co., VA, WB 1:113-114.)

Burwell Bass listed on 1790 Greenville Co., Va. Census, 4 whites, ten blacks. Issue: Nancy and Benjamin Bass.

This is still another man.
