Thomas Bass was born ca 1700 m. (1) Elizabeth Howlett m. ca Feb. 1724/1725 in Chesterfield Co., VA. She died ca June 1724/1725. Then, he m. (2) Mary, after 1747.

"Depositions taken at Mrs. Friends, the twenty-first day of December Anno Domini 1769 between Thomas Bass, plaintiff, and Mary Bass, and other defendants as follows, to-wit: Cecily Bass, aged seventy-five years or thereabouts being first sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God as a witness in the said cause, saith that she was well acquainted with Thomas Bass and Elizabeth, his wife, many years ago. That she well remembers during the coverture of the said Thomas and Elizabeth that this deponent was with child and delivered of a son called Acrhed about a month or little more older than Thomas Bass, the plaintiff in this cause who was reputed to be the son of the said Thomas and Elizabeth and appears from the Register of Births to have been born on the 9th day of March 1725/26. This deponent further saith that she thinks that the said Thomas and Elizabeth were married about twelve months or near it before the birth of the plaintiff and that the said Elizabeth departed this life about three months after the said Thomas was born and further she saith not. "Henry Moody, Sr., aged sixty years or thereabouts being first sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God as a witness in the said cause saith that this deponent had been married to his present wife forty-two years last August and remembers that Thomas Bass, reputed father to the plaintiff, was married to his second wife before this deponent's marriage. That this deponent was free near about two years before his marriage and knows that Thomas Bass was married to his first wife, Elizabeth Howlett before he was free. He also remembers that the said Thomas Bass had by his first wife, Elizabeth, two negroes, a boy and a girl. The boy named Jamey and the girl as well as he remembers tho' he can't say certainly, named Nan, and further he saith not. /s/Henry Moody."
