Barron of Jones County

William Barron, the emigrant to America, and served in the Revolutionary War in Georgia. He was wounded during the siege of Augusta. He fell into the hands of the Tories and they lured the Indians to behead him. The Tories put his head as a trophy of war on a pole, placed erect in the center of Augusta, where it remained three weeks until the Whigs gained control of the town and took it down. William was born ca 1740 in Ireland, married 1760 Prudence Davis (she died 1815) in 1766. They removed to Warren County, Georgia. Issue:

F. Hiram Barron married Pheriby Pool on 16 November 1820 in Jones County.
G. Henry Barron married Sarah Calloway 8 January 1824 in Jones County.

J. Mary (Polly) Barron married John Bilbray on 20 December 1821 in Jones County.
II. William Barron, Jr., Revolutionary War Soldier, born in Georgia 1767, married Martha Farr.

III. Mary Elizabeth Barron married Jacob Farrard.

IV. Samuel Barron, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born 16 March 1768, his LWT dated 10 July 1823, probated 3 February 1826 in Jones County. Wife, Joanna Braswell (her LWT dated 28 April 1827, probated 15 July 1825, named her daughter, Nancy Barron). He served as a Private in the North Carolina Regiment during the Revolutionary War, and receive bounty lands in Washington County. Issue:

Hancock County Deeds

Deed Book C. 30 November 1798. Samuel Barron and his wife, Joannah, of Hancock County deed to James George of Warren County for $200.00, 100 acres located on the north side of the Oconee River, being part of a grant to Samuel Barron.

Deed Book C. 12 January 1799. Samuel Barron and his wife, Joanna, brickmason; Gideon Bond and Mary, his wife; John Bond and Allenor, his wife, all of Hancock County, deed to William Sallard of Hancock county 87-1/2 acres of land, for $375.00.
