Ayers of Franklin County



Legend. The Ayers family descend from Nathaniel Ayers of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, whose LWT was probated on 5/22/1777.
Several of his children came to Franklin County, viz: Moses, Yanake, Daniel and Rogimalich Baker Ayers.

Moses Ayers, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born ca 1740 and died 8/25/1833 on Reed Creek in Franklin, now Hart County where he was buried along with his wife, Abigail. Family tradition says that he was married thrice and that his widow Abigail was part Cherokee Indian. From 1767 to 1785 Moses Ayers owned land in Virginia before removing to Surry County, North Carolina; removed ca 1798 to Franklin County, Georgia. He had 8 sons and 7 daughters. Known children: Mary Ayers,; Moses Ayers Jr., born 1775; Obediah Ayers, born 1779; David Ayers, born 1784; Nathaniel Ayers, born 1788; Daniel Ayers born 1795 and Jedediah Ayers, born 1798.

Moses Ayers, Jr., born 1775 in Virginia, died 1856 in Normandy, Bedford County, Tennessee. He was married to his cousin Mary Ayers (1785-1864) and removed to Tennessee about 1814 where he served as a member of the Tennessee Militia during the Creek Indian War and the War of 1812. Issue: Garland Ayers (1800-1851); Lucinda Ayers (born 1803); Alzira Ayers (born 1811); Harriett Ayers; John Lane Ayers (1813-1883); and Julia Ann Ayers (1821-1898).

Obediah O. Ayers was born 12/25/1779 in Virginia, died ca 1857 in Franklin County, Georgia. He was married to Milly Payne, a daughter of William Payne. The family settled on Middle Fork of the Broad River. Issue: Elizabeth Ayers married Nancy D. Meeks; Larkin C. Ayers 1810-1858 married Elizabeth; Rutha Ayers married Hezekiah Bush; Jeffe F. Ayers married Lena Summers; Obedian R. Ayers married Dicy M..

David Ayers, born 1784 in Virginia, died 11/1820 in Franklin County, Georgia, married Disa. Issue: William Russell Ayers; Moses Ayers; Abigail Ayers; Dicy Ayres; and Jedediah Ayers.

Nathaniel Ayers, born 12/17/1788 in North Carolina, died 5/10/1846 in Habersham County, Georgia (now Stephens), married 1/12/1813 Milcah Walters (9/23/1795-6/26/1854), daughter of Revolutionary War Soldier Elijah Walters and his wife, Judith (Cawthon) Walters. They were buried in the Dicks Hill Farm cemetery near Ayersville in Stephens County. Nathaniel owned land at Reed Creek as well as Shoal Creek in Franklin (now Hart County). In 1825 he removed to Habersham County where he built a two-story log cabin at the foot of Dicks Hill (still stands). They had 17 children, viz: Augustine Ayers (born 10/18/1813, died 2 months); Jane Ann Ayers (born 11/13/1814) married James H. Dodd; Elijah J. Ayers (1/27/1816-10/1821); Elizabeth M. Ayers (4/17/1817-4/17/1843) married George W. Keeling; Lucy Ayers (9/1/1818-10/23/1840); Moses P. Ayers (born 10/1/1819) married Sarah Ann Addison; David Clark Ayers (4/6/1821-1027/1854) married Mahala; Evaline (11/5/1822-7/2/1824); Jeremiah Walters Ayers (4/26/18241/13/1885) married Lucy Gest and Louisa Emmaline Langston; Daniel N. Ayers (7/3/1826-6/30/1844); Judith Pamela Ayers (12/23/1827-10/23/1903) married Little Madison Keeling; Eliza Abigail Ayers (7/3/1829-8/1884); Charles Franklin Ayers (9/16/1830-6/23/1889) married Mary Ann Terrell; Robert Wiley Ayers (1/31/1832-12/6/1917) married Mary Guest; Martha Ayers (10/20/1833-7/15/1854); Joseph S. Ayers (3/31/1835-6/26/1854); and Harriet C. Ayers (8/10/1837-1866) married Joseph Buryl Whitehead.

Daniel Ayers was born 3/1/1795 in North Carolina and died 3/13/1878 in Franklin County, Georgia. He was married 10/23/1814 to Leah Aderhold (born 12/24/1794 in South Carolina, died 7/3/1871 in Franklin County), a daughter of John C. Aderhold of Pendleton County. Daniel owned land at Reed Creek, later removing to Middle Fork on the Broad River. Issue: Abigail Ayers (1815-1872) married Wilborn Weldon; Magdalena Ayers (1817-1837); Jedediah Ayers (born 1820) married Eliza; Lewis Ayers (1822-1864) married (1) Lucinda C. (2) Dicy Tribble; Francis Marion Ayers (1826-1911) married Sarah A. Payne; Nathaniel H. Ayers (1830-1913) married Margaret Wright; Samuel Aderhold Ayers (born 1832) married Abigail A. Adams; Daniel Ayers (born 1833); John Elias Ayers (born 1835) married Nancy Tribble; and James Ayers (1838-1847).

Yanake Ayers, born ca 1733/1742, died after 1811, married Thomas Payne, Sr.

Baker Ayers, born 1750/1760, resident of Franklin County in 1830. In 1838 he resided in Whitehead District of Habersham County when he received a land grant in Cherokee County for his Revolutionary War Service. Issue: Baker Ayers, Jr. married Betsy. Baker Ayers, Jr. and wife, Betsy were the parents of :
Moses Ayers, born 12/7/1794 in Franklin County, died 8/19/1876 in Habersham County, married Mary Davis, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Davis. Issue:
