AWTREY of Greene and Carroll Counties

Absalom Awtrey was born 6/7/1750 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina and died 1827 in St. Claire County, Alabama. His wife was Mary Lucy. Their issue were: Mollie; Edward (died 1/24/1837 in Caswell County, North Carolina); Drucilla and Jacob (below).

Jacob Awtrey was born 4/22/1789 in Greene County, Georgia and died 11/22/1859 in Villa Rica, Carroll County. His LWT dated 8/2/1859, a copy of which is on this website (Probate/Carroll). He was married on 10/21/1809 in Jackson County, Georgia to Nancy Hill, born 1/1/1793 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, died 7/25/1852 in Villa Rica. Issue:

• William Hill Awtrey, born 1/15/1813 in Jackson County, died 1872 in Carroll County. His LWT and Codicil are on this website (Probate/Carroll) wherein he directs that his homestead be sold and that tuition to college be paid for his daughter.
• Merrill C. Awtrey, born 7/18/1816 in Jackson County.
• Emily Jerusha Awtrey, born 7/12/1820 in Jackson County, died 10/3/1864, married Mr. Cleaves.
• Isaac Awtrey 4/16/1823-10/16/1827.
• E. Elbina Awtrey, born 6/3/1825 Jackson County, died 10/23/1847.
• Adeline M. Awtrey 8/10/1827-5/3/1908 married Mr. Merrill.
• George W. Awtrey 5/29/1829-5/23/1882.
• Susannah Fitzalan Awtrey 9/5/1931-11/1/1908.
• Sarah Awtrey 5/7/1834-9/7/1867 married Mr. Bell.
• Lucy Ann Awtrey 9/19/1836=1/19/1918 married Mr. Merrill.
