Austin of Columbia and Muscogee Counties

William A. Austin m. Amelia Howard, b. 1781 Columbia Co., Ga., according to LWT of Martha Howard dtd 1/22/1802 pvd 1/25/1803 in Columbia Co., Ga. She was the daughter of Lemuel and Martha Howard.

William A. Austin, b. 3/17/1776, d. 8/17/1850. He drew in the 1803 Land Lottery of Hancock County Land Lottery. Also, he was listed on the 1806 Hancock Co. Tax Digest; from there he removed to Baldwin Co. in 1808, thence to Jones Co. 1812 to 1823, and finally to Muscogee Co. in 1829 where he died. Listed on the 1850 Muscogee Co. Census was his widow, Amelia Austin, living with her son, Allen J. Austin. The family lived in the area now known as the Coweta Reserve. Muscogee Co. DB G, P. 44, 11/18/1853, William Austin deeded to James M. Chambers, both of Muscogee Co., acreage in the Coweta Reserve, ten acres. Issue of William A. Austin follows:

I. William Austin, b. 1797 Ga., listed 1860 Muscogee Co. Census, age 53, negro trader, b. in Ga.

II. Allen Jefferson Austin, b. 2/21/1803, d. 1850 Muscogee Co., m. 12/29/1825, according to Bible records. Listed 1830-1850 Muscogee Census.

II. Augustus B. Austin, b. 8/24/1808 Baldwin Co., d. 11/3/1868, m. Sarah Taylor, having issue: Josephine Austin m. Mr. Thompson and had son, R. L. Thompson of Eufaula, Alabama; George W. Austin m. A. J. Hudson [issue: George; Minnie m. Lum Applewhite; George, Jr. m. Eugenia Davidson and had seven children, viz-Georgia Mae m. C. Cabe, Mary, G. W. Blanchard, Annie, William and Howard; Coleman Austin, and William Austin.
