Ashmore



Frederick Ashmore married Bridget 8 Feb 1759. His Bible Record named wife and children, and specified that Peter and Mary were children of Frederick Ashmore. These Ashmores are believed to have come from Prince William Co., Virginia.

Frederick Ashmore is listed in the Ancestral File of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints (#AFN-1M59-B3F) as being a son of Walter Ashmore and his wife, Margaret, of Harford County, Maryland. Frederick, born ca 1736 and his brother, James, born 4 Nov 1732 MD, died 1803 Chatham Co., N. C.

The only Georgia record of Frederick Ashmore are the following headright grants:
St. Paul's Parish, 250 acres, 1775 (now Richmond County)
St. Paul's Parish, 100 acres, 1774 (now Richmond County)
St. Paul's Parish, 150 acres, 1774 (now Richmond County)
Issue:

I. John Ashmore was born 22 January 1760. He had a Land Grant in Washington County of 287-1/2 acres in Washington County in 1785 and 200 acres in Wilkes County in 1787. He drew land in Wilkes County, in 1803, 2 draws. Greene Co. Deed Book 1,

. 16-17, John Ashmore and his wife deed to William Fitzpatrick for 50 pounds sterling, 287-1/2 acres in Washington County on the Oconee River. In 1830, he lived in Henry County.

II. Elizabeth Ashmore born 29 Dec 1761 m. Thomas Tucker of Wilkes Co.

III. Sarah Ashmore born 3 August 1763, believed to have married Silas Catchings of Wilkes County.

IV. William Ashmore born 17 Nov 1765, died 1803 Oglethorpe County, his LWT dated 24 April 1803, probated 30 June 1803 Oglethorpe County Will Book A, p. 120, naming his wife, Lucy, and children. He was first married to Clarrander Catchings, whose LWT is dated 8 Nov 1794, probated 17 Dec 194, Wilkes County, which named their children. His second wife was Lucy Fluker, for she was named in the LWT of her father, Owen Fluker dated 1 Nov 1819, Wilkes Co., Ga. Issue:

B. patience Ashmore m. Isaiah Paschal as mentioned in LWT of Samuel Arnett, p. 390, Book HH, Wilkes Co., Ga.

C. Mildred Ashmore m. 1/1815 Marbury Sneed, Wilkes Co., Ga.

D. William Ashmore m. Ann Catchings, who, after her husband's death in 1818, drew as a widow in the Wilkes County Lottery of 1819. She remarried on 13 Dec 1819 Samuel Arnett of Wilkes Co. William Ashmore's LWT dated 3 Mar 1818 Wilkes Co., Ga.

F. Mary Ashmore may have married Richard Madden.

G. Margaret Ashmore m. George Terry.
V. Pointeen Ashmore b. 12 Jan 1768 Henry Co. Deed Book A, p. 104, dated 13 May 1824. Pointeen Ashmore to Lawton Hopgood for $115.00, Lot No. 71 in the 3rd District of Henry Co. Listed on 1830 Muscogee Co., Ga. Census.

VI. Peter Ashmore, carpenter, b. 28 Dec 1770, listed on 1820 Lincoln Co., Ga. Census. Died in Lincoln Co. after 1839. Jerry Ashmore was admr. of his estate in 1845. His wife, Elizabeth, died 5 July 1852. She was probably Elizabeth Leverett, a daughter of William Leverett of Wilkes Co. peter drew 200 acres in Wilkes Co. in the 1803 Land Lottery. Issue:

A. John Ashmore, his LWT dated 22 Jan 1855, probated Mar 1855 Lincoln Co., Ga.

B. Albert G. Ashmore.

C. Thomas p. Ashmore b. 25 April 1813 Lincoln Co., Ga., d. 4 Feb 1884 Lincoln Co., Ga., in the home of his nephew, George Ashmore, near New Hope Church.

D. Daughter who married Jeremiah Sanders. <

E. Daughter who married Silas Catchings.

F. Jeremiah Ashmore.
