Armor/Armour of Greene County
James Armour was born ca 1724 in Ireland, he died before 16 April 1764 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Issue: John Armour born ca 1723 Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, died Greene Co., Georgia; Robert Armour, born ca 1725; Andrew Armour (see below); James Armour, born ca 1752 in Ireland; and William Armour, born ca 1754 in Ireland, died 27 September 1776 in South Carolina.
Andrew Armour was born ca 1750 in Ireland, died at sea about 1803, a resident of Greene County, Georgia. He married Elizabeth.
Greene County Deeds Deed Book B, page 325, 5 January 1789, Andrew Armour and Elizabeth, his wife, of Greene County deed to Hugh Hall of Wilkes County, 70 pds. sterling, 287-1/2 acres in Greene County.
Deed Book F, page 171, 15 February 1795, Andrew Armour of Greene County and Elizabeth, his wife, to William Brown, 103 pds. sterling, 504 acres in Greene County bound by James Whatley.
Deed Book F, page 296, dated January 1755, recorded 17 February 1796, George Dean, Burket Dean and Charles Dean, Sr. of Greene County to Andrew Armour of Greene County, for 35 pds., land in Town of Greensborough, Lot 15, bounded south by the courthouse, the same lot whereon William Howe now lives. Issue:
I. James Armor was born ca 1771, died 1806, Jasper County, his LWT was proved by James King and William Hitchcock in Jasper County, Georgia, May 1816. Letters of Testamentary were issued to William Armor. Another entry, from Jasper County, dated 3 March 1806, estate of James Armor, deceased, lists William Armer and Joseph Cowden as receiving letters of administration. Jackson County Minutes of the Court, 1800-22, page 105, William Armor and Joseph Crowden make Return on the Estate of James Armor, deceased, which was ordered recorded.
Jackson County Deeds Deed Book C, page 72, 14 October 1800, John Barnett to James Armer, Sr., both of Jackson County, for $450.00, 287-1/2 acres in Jackson County, formerly in Franklin County, granted to James Tindal by a land grant on 13 July 1795, land located on Walnut Cree,.
II. William Armor, Sr. was born 1776 in North Carolina, married Margaret (McMichael?), born 1786. From the Minutes of the Court of Ordinary, Jasper County, William Armor, in right of his wife, on the Estate of James McMichael, deceased, applied to sell part of Lot No. 131 in the 12th District of Jasper County, January, 1819. He died 2 September 1852, Greene County, Georgia. He married (recorded in Jasper and Jackson Counties) Margaret McMichael on 20 January 1818. Another recorded marriage in Jackson County, William Armor to Elizabeth Langley on 28 October 1819.
He was listed on the 1830 Greene County Census. The LWT of William Armor dated 16 July 1852, probated 5 October 1852, Greene County, named wife Margaret, leaving her the following negroes during her natural lifetime: Elijah, Big Jade, Enoch, Suky, Hal, Little Judy. She can sell Malinda and her children, Charlotte, America and Landy. To son, Reuben B. Armor, negroes - Stephen, Peter, Neal, Jacob, Anthony, Moses, Cynthia Earl and Maria. To son, William, Jr., negroes - Jackson, Daniel, Isaac, Big Dave, Winney, Jourdan, Tilda and children, Julius, Dorcas and Solomon. To son, James N., negroes - Slick, John, Allen, Sukey, Bill, Aggy, Victor and children and Miranda. To daughter: Mary Ann Park, in trust for her children, negroes James, Benjamin, Dock, William, littel Dave, Clance and her children, Sam abd Eady. The residue of estate to be sold and proceeds divided among his children. 1/4th portion to be held in trust for daughter, Mary Armor Park and her children.
