Alfriend of Greene County



In 1830, Abraham and Edward D. Alfriend were residents of Greene County, Georgia. The LWT of William Lewis, dated 7 April 1808, in Hancock County, left a legacy to Edward D. and Abraham Alfriend.

Edward D. Alfriend was born 1784 in Virginia, married Nancy Hamilton 3 December 1811 in Hancock County. (Anna, born 1792) He was listed on the 1830-1850 Greene County, Georgia Census. He was left a legacy by Sarah Lewis, the widow of Sterling Lewis (Greene County Will Book F, page 198, 24 May 1830, to Edward D. Alford (friend and relative) as a token of regard for his friendly service and attention to me.

Greene County Will Book G, page 368, LWT of Edward D. Alfriend, recorded 6 July 1870, named daughter: Martha Ann (negro Minerva and her children; granddaughter, Ann Hamitt McDonald (negro woman, Winney. He mentioned six children, without naming all of them. One daughter, Patience T. Mapp. Son: B. C. Alfriend. His four sons were executors.

Issue:

I. William L. Alfriend, was born 1813, physician, married Sarah Frances Dunn (born 1827) 22 February 1842 in Greene County. Greene County Will Book, page 131, 12 June 1848, LWT of James Dunn, names wife, Elizabeth. To: Frances Alfriend, wife of Dr. William L. Alfriend, negroes - Adeline, Jenny, Sucky and infant child. The family resided in Sparta and in 1880 a nephew resided with them, viz: James E. Alfriend, born 1841. Issue:
A. Edward D. Alfriend was born 1842/1843, physician married Mary P. (born 1845). They were residing with Edward's parents in 1880, Sparta.

B. Lela Alfriend, born 1843 Georgia.

C. Ella G. Alfriend was born 1846 Georgia.

D. Tallelah Alfriend (f) was born 1848/1849 Georgia.

II. Martha Alfriend was born 1820.

III. Joel A. H. Alfriend was born 1830.

IV. Sarah Alfriend was born 1832.

V. Hamlin L. Alfriend was born 1834, married Sallie E. Watts on 24 October 1861 in Hancock County. Issue:
