WARREN AKIN, COLONEL
COLONEL WARREN T. AKIN was born 9 October 1811 in Elbert County, Georgia and died 17 December 1877 in Cartersville. He was Speaker of the Confederate House of Representatives of Georgia and well as the last Whig candidate for Governor of Georgia, being defeated by Joseph E. Brown in 1859. He married first, 12/9/1849 in Cass County (later named Bartow County), Elizabeth Pruitt, and 2nd, Miss Mary Verdety of Augusta, (7/6/1830-10/17/1907 in Cartersville, Georgia, buried Cassville). Mrs. Akin was a member of the Methodist church for seventy-one years. Colonel Akin was a local Methodist minister and also a lawyer, being considered one of the leaders of the Cherokee bat. He was named in the LWT of Sarah Fambrough in Monroe Co. Will Book C, page 58 dated 3/1869, probated 6/1869, as her brother, appointed Executor. Mary Akin was widowed in 1880, a resident of Cartersville according to the 1880 Census of Bartow County.

- JOHN WESLEY AKIN, lawyer, Judge, President of the Georgia Senate, was born 1860 in Cartersville, died 10/19/1907. He was married to Miss Fannie Seales on 29 November 1894 in Fulton County. Between 4-5,000 people gathered at the Sam Jones Tabernacle in Cartersville to attend his funeral. Governor Hoke Smith eulogized the deceased statesman. "He was a laborer, a man confined, but long before he entered public life and assumed public office, he had benefited the state and the nation by his powerful pen." "I have always found him upon the side of the people and never caring for the influence of combines or corporations. He was always thinking, writing and speaking in behalf of his fellow men." Atlanta Georgian dated 10/19/1907.

- VERDERY A. AKIN married Mr. Erwin of North Takoma, Washington before 1880.
- SALLIE MAY AKIN was born 1873 in Cartersville.
