The Able family of Edgefield, South Carolina appears to have originated in Orange County, Virginia with Richard Abell, son of Joseph. Richard died ca 1793 in Orange County and was buried in the Stringfellow Graveyard. He and his wife, Ann, had six known children, viz: Aleapear, John, Mary, Caleb, Jeremiah (1750/1751-1811) and Ephraim (1760-5/1810).
Jeremiah Able came to Edgefield, South Carolina where he died in 1811. Wife, Elizabeth Robers. Issue (all born Orange County, Virginia): Jeremiah Abell, born 1777; Elizabeth Abell, born 1779;Ezeiel Abell, born 1780; Margaret Abell, born 1782; Abraham Abell (1784-1819); and Absalom (1793-1856).
Absalom Roberts Able, son of Jeremiah, was born October 25, 1793 in Edgefield County, South Carolina and died 18 Jul 1856 in Paulding Co. Wife, Parasday. He was the son of Jeremiah Able (1746-1811) or Abell and his wife, Elizabeth Roberts. Absalom was married (1) to Salome or Sally Feagle on 7 June 1818 in Edgefield County; (2) to Matilda Gibson Murdock and (3) to Parasday of Periander. After Absalom's death, Periander married M. W. Baker 20 Mar 1859 in Paulding County. Absalom's Last Will and Testament was headed Edgefield District, named children: Amythe? and Josh L. Son by my second wife, Absalom Robert Gilder Able. Wife now pregnant. Daughter, Amythe to live with her sister, Loretta Bryan. He named two sons of his deceased son, Ethelbert Able, to have their father's share. Son: A. R. G. Able. Son-in-law: Robert D. Bryan and son, Jeremiah Able, executors. Date: 2/8/1856.
