1754 Land Grants in Midway - Liberty County



Mr. Benjamin Baker was appointed with Mr. John Stevens to survey and lay out sundry tracts of land on and adjacent to the Midway and Newport Rivers.

No. 1. Pamenus Way, 500 acres, bounded south on lands possessed by Nathan Taylor, west and westerly by said Nathan Taylor and vacant lands, north by vacant lands and east by lands possessed by John Davis and Marsh, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 2. John Quarterman, Sr., 500 acres, bounded east on land possessed by Nathan Taylor, south on lands possessed by Isaac Lines, and north and west by vacant lands, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 3. John Elliott, 500 acres, bounded east on land possessed by Isaac Lines and Andrew Collins, and on all sides by vacant lants at head of Midway river.

No. 4. Samuel Bacon, 500 acres, bounded east on lands possessed by Kenneth Baillie, and on all other sides vacant lands at the head of the Midway River.

No. 5. Benjamin Baker, 500 acres bounded east on lands possessed by Samuel Bacon, north on lands possessed by Andrew Collins, and on all sides by vacant lands, at the head of Midway River.

No. 6. Edward Summer, 500 acres, bounded east by Benjamin Baker’s land, part north on lands possessed by Andrew Collins and John Elliott, and on other sides by vacant lands, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 7. Edward Way, 500 acres of land bounded east on lands possessed by Edward Summer and vacant lands, north on lands possessed by John Elliott, and on other sides by vacant lands, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 8. John Stevens, 500 acres bounded east on lands possessed by Edward Way, north part on said Way and part on vacant lands, and on all other sides by vacant lands, between the heads of Midway and Newport Rivers.

No. 9. John Mitchell, 500 acres bounded east on lands possessed by John Stevens, and on all other by vacant lands between the heads of Midway and Newport Rivers.

No. 10. Samuel Way, 500 acres, bounded south on John Mitchell’s land, and on all other sides vacant, at the head of Midway River.

No. 11. John Shave, 200 acres situated about a quarter of a mile from John Mitchell’s land, and bounded on other sides by vacant lands at the head of the Midway River.

No. 12. John Osgood, 500 acres bounded north, part on John Stevens and Edward Ways land, and on other sides by vacant lands, on the north side of Newport River.

No. 13. Sarah Mitchell, 500 acres, bounded northerly on John Osgood’s lands and on other sides vacant, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 14. William Baker, 500 acres, situated about a mile from Sarah Mitchell’s land, bounded on other sides vacant, at the head of Newport River.

No. 15. Richard Spencer, 500 acres situated on the south east corner of Sarah Mitchell’s land and bounded on other sides vacant, at head of Newport River.

No. 16. Josiah Osgood, 500 acres, bounded westerly on lands possessed by Richard Spencer, other sides vacant, at head of Newport River.

No. 17. Richard Baker, 500 acres, situated about a mile and a half from l ands possessed by William Baker, bounded on both sides vacant, at the head of the Midway River.

No. 18. Elizabeth Baker, 400 acres bounded east on Richard Baker’s land, and on other sides vacant, at head of Newport River.

No. 19. Samuel Burnley, 500 acres, bounded southerly on Robert Baillie’s lands, other sides vacant, on south side of Midway River.

No. 20. Nathaniel Way, 500 acres, bounded easterly by lands possessed by James Maxwell, Jr., northerly by said Maxwell and a marsh, and on the other sides vacant on the south side of the Midway River.

No. 21. Glebe for the Minister, 300 acres, bounded west by Nathaniel Way’s land, southside of Midway River.

No. 22. Moses Way, 200 acres bounded on north part on Elizabeth Baker’s land, and other sides vacant, at head of Newport River.

No. 23. Thomas Way, 200 acres situated about three miles from Richard Baker’s land, bounded by vacant lands, at the head of the Newport River.

No. 24. Joseph Winn, 200 acres of land, bounded southwest on Josiah Osgood, other sides vacant, at the head of the Newport River.
