Utoy BaptistChurch organized in DeKalb County in 1824
Location: One-mile west of McPherson, Georgia. The roll of the members appearing in the first record book contained more than three hundred names. The first eleven names were: Hosea Mainer, Ervin Stricklin, Peggy Suttles, Peggy Willis, Elizabeth Waits, Mary Dunlap, Robert Atkinson, James Dunlap, Orphy Tate, Mary Stricklin and James Donehoo.In 1825 the Utoy Church with a membership of thirty, joined the Yellow River Association which had been organized on 18 September 1824. Until the year of 1864, the church was represented at the annual meeting of the Association.
The following Elders served as pastors: James Hale, one year; Radford Gunn, three years; Josiah Grisham, fourteen years; Simon Edwards, four years; Isaac Hamby, nine months; Johnson Pate, twenty-one years; Elijah Webb, three years; J. H. Cook, twelves years, N. B. Hardy, three years and nine months; J. A. Jordan, two years; S. H.Whatley, four years; H. G. Mitchell, one year; W. T. Almand, two years; J. M. Livsey, five months; W. H. Smith, eight years; W. J. Cheek, three years; W. W. Dempsey, one year; J. HJ. Brown, four years; and W. T. Hill.
