Christopher CHAMBLISS, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born between 1760 and 1765 in Sussex Co., Virginia. He died in Sep 1840 in Bibb Co., Georgia. Christopher Chambliss was a Revolutionary War Soldier, listed between the age of 60/70 on the 1830 Bibb Co., Georgia Census. In 1785 he had Land Grants in Wilkes Co., Georgia., and also in Washington Co., which there is no record of his ever taking it up (Washington County records did not survive). Page 54, Georgia's Roster of the Revolution, "Christopher Chambliss or Chambless, Certificate of Colonel James McNeill, 2/2/1784, pray for 250 acres. Entitled to same." Page 68: "Certificate of Colonel James McNeill, petitions for 575 acres bounty land as per certificate from Hon. John Houston, Esq. 4/5/1784 prays for same in Washington Co." Page 127: "James McNeill, with power of attorney, acknowledges receipt of warrants for Christopher Chambliss and three others." Page 202: "575 acres in Washington Co., bounded E by Ambrose Jones, other sides vacant, Lot 849, Warrant 2439, 6/5/1784." Samuel CHAMBLISS, a son of Christopher, was born in 1787 in Warren Co., Georgia. He died in 1853 in Bibb Co., Georgia. On September 22, 1810, Samuel Chambliss purchased 200 acres on Long Creek from Samuel Camp in Warren Co., Georgia. He sold out in Warren Co. 1815, his 202 1/2 acres to Robert Carey of Jones Co. for $400.00. At his father's death in 1840, Samuel Chambliss purchased 240 acres in Bibb Co. from his father's estate, as well as three slaves and numerous other items. July 4, 1853, Samuel Chambliss and Jackson Chambliss gave bond for $14,000 for the goods and chattel of their father's estate (Samuel). Among the items listed were three spinning wheels, 86 hogs, saddles, a bull, oxen, 30 head of sheep, gin, and blacksmith tools, and Isaac and Rose, the negro couple which Samuel had purchased from the estate of his father, Christopher Chambliss (Estate of Samuel Chambliss dated 1853 Bibb Co., Georgia. Listed on 1850 Bibb Co., Georgia. Census. He was married to Jane DANIELLY (daughter of Andrew DANIELLY and Jane HARRIS) on 30 May 1814 in Warren Co., Georgia. Joel Edgar Chambliss (1850-1918), a son of Andrew Jackson Chambliss and his wife, Mary Tapley.  Elizabeth Smith Clements Chambliss, wife of Joel Edgar Chambliss. Joel Edgar CHAMBLISS was born on 20 Nov 1850 in Bolingbroke, Monroe Co., Georgia. He was buried in May 1918 in Smith Cemetery, Brent, Monroe Co., Georgia. He died on 21 May 1918 in Atlanta, Fulton Co., Georgia. Joel Edgar Chambliss resided at Bolingbroke, a small community in Bibb Co. At the turn of the century, he removed his family to Atlanta. In the summertime, he and his wife would take the children to his wife's parent'stion in Monroe Co., located at Brent, near Forsyth. They were both buried at the old Smith Family Cemetery at Brent. The plantation house on this site was torn down about 1930 and is now being used as farmland. The old Davis Smith house was a typical two-story with square columns supporting the front porch. A lane of cedar trees led a path to the house. My grandmother, Mary Brent Chambliss Evans, recalled visiting the old house during the summer months. She also recollected that it has been necessary for the family to remove to Atlanta after the Civil War to find work as the Smith Plantation was no longer a working plantation.
