DeKalb County, Tennessee DeKalb County History DeKalb County was founded in 1837 from land in Cannon, Warren and White counties. It was named in honor of Baron Johann DeKalb, a Bavarian officer who accompanied Lafayette to America in 1777. He was appointed major general in the Continental Army.
