The old 96 District in South Carolina was formed in 1769 but in 1785 was divided into the following counties: Abbeville, Edgefield, Laurens, Newberry, Spartanburg and Union. Supposingly, the records were sent to the various counties listed above. Therefore, the place to search for the old records is in the county where the ancestor resided. The documents listed here are done so because it is unknown which counties these persons later fell into.
