BACHLOTT, John, born in St. Milo, France in 1760, died 6/6/1853 in Camden County, Georgia.He served with General LaFayette in the Battle of Yorktown, Virginia. As a result ofhis services during the war, he drew land in Camden County. In 1785, he married Mary Conrad inVirginia, removing first to South Carolina, then to Amelia Island, Florida in 1799. In 1800, theysettled at St. Mary's Georgia (Camden County). Son, Joseph Bachlott, born 1792 in Virginia,died 1822 in St. Marys, Georgia, married Mary Frances Rudolph (born 1805), the daughter of ThomasRudolph and Elizabeth Rudolph. BARNETT, William a Revolutionary War Soldier, b. in Virginia, d. Greene Co., Ga., served in the Virginia Troops, receiving bounty lands in Georgia for his service. Revolutionary War Soldiers in Georgia by McCall cites this service. Ref:Vol. I of Memoirs of Georgia, page 523:
"William Barnett was a Virginian and give five years of faithful service to his country in that heroic struggle. At the end of this strife as he and a friend were on their way home, being in need of food and without any means of obtaining it, having no money, when they could no longer endure their hunger they changed to see a calf, which they seized and killed, and almost before it had ceased kicking they had skinned a portion of it and were beginning to make a meal of it. Shortly after the revolution Mr. Barnett brought his wife, Mary Hewey, to Georgia, and here in Greene County in 1784 his son, John, was born and grew to manhood....."

BARNSLEY, Godfrey, born in Black Forest, England, died in New Orleans on 6/6/1872, buried athis plantation in Cass County, Ga. He removed to Savannah where he was appointed byAndrew Jackson (5/29/1829) as vice consul of the Netherlands for the Port of Savannah, and on 7/28/1829 was appointed vice consul of the Two Sicilies. He also resided in New Orleans. He was a cotton buyer inSavannah and New Orleans. During the 1830's and 40's he removed to Cass County where he built a brick homefrom native material that was to have the appearance of an English castle, where imported shrubs from all overthe world were planted in his garden, known as Barnsley's Garden. During the War Betweenthe States, the house was used as a fortress for the Federals. He married Julia Scarborough of Wilmington,N. C. Issue: Anna G. Gilmour of London England; Dr. George S. Barnsley who served inthe Confederate Army; Lucian Barnsley of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Adelaide married a Mr. Reed ofGlasgow, Scotland; Julia Bernard married Capt. James P. BASS, William S., son of James, was born 5/10/1763 Chesterfield Co., Va., according to Rev. War Pension 8/15/1832, dtd Powhatan Co., Va. He lived Chesterfield Co. until 18 or 19 yrs. of age when he removed to Powhatan Co. He m. Sarah Shackleford 10/1789 (Sarah, aged 69, at time of application). William d. 5/10/1839. John Bass, then age 81, was present at his marriage. Nancy Sublett, aged 67, sister of Sarah.
BASSE, Hugh of Buckinghamshire, England. his name appears in the Assessment Rolls called The Hundred Rollsof Edward I of England (1276-1279 A. D.).
BASSE, Humfrey, London Merchant, died 1616.
BASSE, Nathaniel, Capt., the son of Humfrey and Mary (Busher, Bussher, Buschier, Busseier) Basse, and had bros: Richard, Samuel, Humfrey and Luke. Aged 35, Nathaniel came over onboard ship, the "Furtherance: in 1622 and established his plantation "Basse's Choice" near the Warrascayack River. The house was being built, when, on Good Friday, 3/22/1622, the famous indian' massacre occurred which took the lives of many of the settler's living in that part of Va. Capt. Basse escaped, because he was in England at the time. The Census of 1623/4 showed residing at "Warrick Squake" and "Basse's Choice" 53 persons, including Nathaniel and Samuel Basse. Capt. Basse represented his plantation in the House of Burgesses in 1623 and 1629; was a Member of the Council in 1630 and 1631. The last reference of his is going to New EnglaQd in 1631 to obtain settlers for his and others plantations in Virginia. Nathaniel Basse, gentleman, was associated with Capt. Christopher Lawne, Sir Richard Worsley (Knight and Baronet) and others in establishing in 1619 the first settlement in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, known as the Isle of Wight Plantation. Later, Capt. Basse, Arthur Swain and others undertook to establish another plantation in the same neighborhood and received on 11/21/1621 a patent for 300 acres of land on the Westside of Pagen River and East of the Bennett plantation of Wanascoyack. Issue: Nathaniel Basse, born 1587, baptised 12/29/1589 at Church of St. Gabriel, Fencurch Street, London, England.
BASSE, William. Early settlers of Virginia: John Bass, Upper New Norfolk (Nansemond Co.) 1637; Gregory Bass 1642; and TdnyDass, Westmoreland Co. 1654. Mr. John Harvie was granted 600 acres of land on Carratucks Creek falling into the river of Kecaughtanke, which river falls into the Caroline River (Albemarle Sound), 9/26/1663, for transporting 12 persons, among whom was William Basse. The Census of 2/16/1623/4, William Basse and Mrs. Basse were living at; Jordan's Journey, a plantation of 450 acres in Prince Geo. Co., Va., which adjoined John Rolfe and was covered by patent 9/20/1620 to Samuel Jordan, who arrived in Jamestowne with Sir George Somer's fleet in 1609..

BATES, Anthony Washington, born 1775 "came from England with two brothers in the ship "Elizabeth" and settled in Maryland where he married Elizabeth Howard. Theymoved to Pacelot, SC and had eleven children: Mathias Bates b 1805, Martha Bates, Nancy Bates, Anthony Bates b 1809, Clarissa Bates, Elizabeth Bates,Barbara Bates, Benjamin J. Franklin Bates, James Madison Bates, Viney Bates and Zachariah Jackson Bates. The only ones to come to Gwinnett were Mathias andAnthony Washington, who came about 1820. Mathias settled on Peachtree Ridge near Mulbreey Creek and was the owner of a mill. BEALL, Alexander gives his father, James Bealle of Montgomery County, Maryland Power of Attorney to recover all debts,sums of money and legacies due me. Date: 18 May 1796. Columbia Co. Deeds.
BEALL, R. A. Culverton, Hancock Co., Ga, is the son of Jesse R. Beall and Mary Culpepper. The family is of English extraction and came to Virginia in the colonial period, whence many members moved to and settled in North Carolina. The grandfather of Mr. Beall, Samuel Beall, came from North Carolina to Georgia and settled in Warren county, Ga., about the beginning of this century. His family consisted of three sons, Erasmus, Robert and Jesse R., and one daughter, Mary, all deceased but Jesse R., father of the gentleman above named. He was born in 1812, and married in Warren county. His children were as follows: Mary, widow of Samuel Hall; America, deceased; Jane, Mrs. William A. Sutherland, Pulaski county; Annie, Mrs. J.C. Key, Milledgeville; Viola, deceased; Samuel, Jefferson county; R. A., Columbus, deceased, killed at Sharpsburg, private in Company A, Twentieth Georgia regiment; William H., Jefferson county. R. A. Beall was born January 31, 1836. He grew to man's estate on a Warren county plantation, and at the age of twenty-two married Fitzena C. Cheely. Eight children have grown up about home: James T., Hancock county; Jesse K., merchant; J. Frank, Macon; R. C., Hancock county; Anna May, single; Lucillus, Sparta; Albert C., Hancock county, and Louise. Mr. Beall has passed his life in agricultural pursuits for the most part, and is a man of well-known probity of character and undoubted integrity. As a veteran of the late war, he delights in recalling the scenes of those sanguinary days, and grows eloquent in his defense of the lost cause. Enlisting as a private in Company B, Fifteenth Georgia regiment, in 1861, he arrived on the field just after the first battle of Manassas. In the spring of 1862 he took part in the seven days' fight around Richmond, and later was at Seven Pines, Sharpsburg, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. In this bloody fight. Mr. Beall was severely wounded in the right leg during the second day. he was placed in a temporary hospital, which was afterward captured by the enemy, and he thus became a prisoner of war. As he was a commissioned officer at the time, he was carried to Johnson's Island, in which summer resort he remained till February of 1864, when he was removed to Point Lookout. After a short stay there he was transferred to the prison at Fort Delaware, from whence he was paroled late in 18654. After his exchange he again entered the army, and being given a detail to look after government stores and the wounded at Lynchburg, served at that point till the surrender. Mr. Beall is a democrat in politics and a member of the Baptist church. His sons and daughters have all grown up about him, honorable men and noble women, and he lives among them secure in their respect and love. The granddau. of Henry Wilson, the-- stepfather of Elizabeth Berriman, mentioned Frances Cars ley in his LWT dtd 1640 Accomack Co., Va. The mother of Elizabeth is called Alice in this LWT. Elizabeth had a sister, Ursula Berriman.
