Shealy of Newberry County
John Windell Shealy came to America from Heidelberg, Germany in 1763. He was married to Miss Epting, daughter of
John Adam Epting who pioneeded the colony from Germany. They founded the St. John Lutheran Church in Newberry.
John Shealy died 1814, leaving twelve sons and one daughter.
Andrew Shealy, son of John (above), was born 15 Aug 1794 in Newberry, South Carolina and died 4 Aug 1856 in Macon
County, Georgia where he haad removed in 1836. He married Miss Sayer and had six sons and two daughters. Their sixth son was
Martin Luther Shealy who joined the Confederate Army, co. K, 25th Regt., Georgia Volunteers as a private; appointed
2d Corpl. in 1861; transferred in 1862 to Co. B, 22d Batt. Georgia Heavy Artillery; later made 4th and 3rd sergeant;
surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina on 26 April 1865.
