The name is of German origin; there were some families from Baden. George Oswalt was born 1787, possibily in Pennsylvania and died 1867 in Lexington District, South Carolina. He was married to Nancy Weaver.Issue:

• Martin Oswalt, born 6/10/1812 in Lexington District, South Carolina, died 9/30/1904 in Choctaw County, Mississippi.
• Emanuel Oswalt, the son of Henry Oswalt, was born 10/15/1818 in Lexington District, South Carolina, and was married on 4/20/1843 to Euphema Lewis of Charleston(11/15/1827-11/10/1892). Emanuel died 1/24/1897 in Lexington County. Issue:

  1. Franklin Wade Oswalt 8/15/1844-10/1907, buried in the Pisgah Cemetery, Lexington, South Carolina. He was married to Emma D. Griffith, also buried in same cemetery.
