Monk Family


William Monk was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina in 1763. He was married in 1788 to Mary Parrish (1773-1857, a daughter of Henry Parrish and wife, Mary Ann Monk Parrish. After the marriage, the couple removed to Bulloch County, Georgia where they are buried on the old homeplace. Issue: ul>
  • Hiram Monk 1790-1817, died Bulloch County.
  • Rhoda Monk, born 1792.
  • Telitha Monk, born 1794, died 1863 in Lowndes County, Georgia, buried Cat Creek Church.
  • Charlotte Monk 1797-1879, died Clinch County, Georgia.
  • Mahlon Monk, born 1800.
  • Nannie Monk, born 1801.
  • Sarah Monk, born 1802.
  • Malachi Monk, born 1805.
  • William Monk, born 18 May 1809 in Bulloch County, died 24 Sept 1855 in Worth County, Georgia. At the time of his death the nearest doctor was iin Savannah. He was married to Alcy Dampier, born 14 May 1807, died 24 Jan 1886. They are both buried on the old home place five miles below Poulan, Georgia. During the Creek of 1836 William Monk aided by contributing money and service; a member of Captain Sharpe's Company of Florida Volunteers. The land on which he built his home was first deeded to him by the state and is still owned by his descendants. Alcy Dampier was a daughter of John Dampier and Alcy (Hodges) Dampier. Issue:

    2. Martha Monk married Daniel S. Sumner.
    3. John Monk, died unmarried.
    4. Miles Monk married (1) Martha Hancock (2) Susan Norman.
    5. Matilda Monk married Jordon Hanocock.
    6. William Washington Monk married (1)Martha Hancock (2) Mary Florence Williams.

  • Mary Florence Monk
    A son of William Monk, William Washington Monk and his wife, Mary Florence (Williams) Monk continued to reside on the old homeplace. Mary Florence was called the greatest woman farmer in Georgia.
