Liddell Genealogy

James Liddell was born 1712 in Anderson, South Carolina and died 1796 in Abbeville District. He was married to Esther Porter. His LWT was probated 8 Nov 1796 in Abbeville County. He named wife, Esther; John Liddell; Robert Anderson, Esq.; Moses Liddell; Ellener Jerrats Liddell; to George Liddell; James Liddell; Mathew Robinson; Daniel Keith; Andrew Liddell; James Martin. Issue:

Moses Liddell, son of James Liddell, was born 10 April 1755 in Abbeville County and died 3 August 1802 in Pendleton District. He married Elizabeth Johnson (born 17 April 1764, died 4 Nov 1853). He was a Revolutionary War Soldier from Abbeville County, serving both as Lieut. Captain and Colonel. He received bounty land in what is now Anderson County. In 1791-2 he purchased lands on Devil's Fork, which is a branch of the Great Generostee. This land appears to be close to his brother, Andrew Liddell's plantation. Andrew was married first to Jane Johnson who died when their daughter (Mary, born 1796) was about three days old. Moses bequeathed to his niece Mary a legacy if she would remain with his wife until a mature age, so it sounds like Mary was raised by Moses and his wife. Moses and Andrew both attended the Robert's Presbyterian Church. Issue of Moses:
