Elsi Hunt of Greenville, Pendleton and Pickens Counties
Elsi Hunt, Sr. was born 10 January 1759 in Bedford County, Virginia, died 8 May 1837 in Greenville District, South Carolina. He was married to Nancy Lacey (died 17 May 1797), Tama Mosley and Hallie Cochran. Nancy was the mother of Esli and Nicholas. Tama was the mother of Elvira. Issue:
- Esli or Esly Hunt's family was apparently of Scottish origin. Esly is a Scottish name. However, according to the 1850 Pickens county, South Carolina Census, he was born 1788 in South Carolina. The first transaction found of him was 1801 when he purchased 300 acres on Chauga Creek of the Tugalo River in Pendleton County. He apparently resided in the Greenville District of Pickens County, which is near Greenville County so at one time he could have easily have been recorded in Greenville County. Wife, Vicy, was born 1802 in South Carolina. Issue:
- William Hunt, born 1818 in South Carolina, listed 1850 Pickens County Census, unmarried.
- Evaline Hunt, born 1835 in South Carolina.
- Hamilton H. Hunt, born 1837 in South Carolina.
- Hellam D. Hunt (another Scottish name), born 1839 in South Carolina.
- Nicholas Hunt, born 2 Mar 1790 Greenville District, Pickens County, South Carolina. Nicholas was listed on the 1830 Pickens County Census, aged 30-40 years, one son under 5, 2 sons 5 to 10. Wife, daughter 10 to 15.
- Elvira Hunt (1811-1900).
Charles Hunt Sr. of Pickens County
Charles Hunt, Sr. was born ca 1750 and was listed on the 1800 Pendleton District Census as being over the age of 45 years. He had at least two sons. Issue:
- Charles Hunt, Jr. was born 1772 in Virginia; listed on the 1800 and 1850 Pickens County Census. Wife, Milla Whitworth, listed with him, was born in 1790. Their son, William, resided with them. Issue:
- William Hunt.
- Mary Hunt married as follows: “6 May 1829 married Thursday last by Rev. Levi Garrison, John Dalton to Miss Mary, daughter of Charles Hunt, both of Pickens District.”
- Ransom Hunt, born 13 Nov 1804 in South Carolina, died 20 Mar 1886.
Wife, Martha Dalton (born 1803), a daughter of Mrs. Mary Dalton, born 1765, residing with family in 1850. Listed on 1850 Pickens County Census. Issue:
