HOOPER of Lunenburg County, Virginia, Greenville County,
South Carolina & Franklin County, Georgia
Obediah Hooper was born ca 1720, probably Hanover Co., Va., d. 4/6/1803 in Franklin Co., Ga. m. Massalva Brooks of Virginia.
He was an early settler to northwest Franklin County, Georgia, and served in
the Revolutionary War, along with his son, Richard B. Hooper.

Rev. War Soldier whose LWT was dated 2/12/1817, proved 1818 in
Clarke Co., Ga. Mary's LWT was dated 1861.
- James Hooper, d. Ga., m. Elizabeth. He drew in the Ga Lottery of
1827, land in DeKalb Co., Ga.
- Thomas Hooper b. 1747 Va., d. 7/18/1826 Greenville Co., S. C.
m. Jincy.
- William Hooper, his LWT dated 8/20/1815, probated 5/1816
Franklin Co., Ga. m. Joicy. He was a Rev. War Soldier.
- Obediah Hooper, Jr. b. 12/15/1755 Lunenburg Co., Va., d.
5/31/1839 Pickens Co., Alabama m. (1) Sally Gates and (2) Elizabeth
Carter, and (3) Sarah Sanders on 3/24/1805.
- Richard Brooks Hooper b. 5/1756 Lunenburg Co., Va., Rev. War
Soldier, his pension application dated 1/28/1833 in Franklin Co., Ga.,
stating that he enlisted at the Lunenburg Court House where he
resided on 3/1776, and was in the 6th Regt. Of Va., Continental
Army. Stated he was born in Lunenburg Co., Va., May of 1755 or
1758, he does not remember which. After the war, in 1782 or 1783,
he removed to Surry Co., N. C.
In 1790, he was listed on the Virginia census as having 3 sons under the age of 16,
4 females, which included his wife and two daughters, and 5 slaves.
In 1799 he removed to Greenville Co.,
S. C. for two years, thence to Pendleton Dist., S. C. For three years
until about 1820, thence to Franklin Co., Ga.
The Hooper Genealogy
stated that he was b. 1756 and m. in Halifax Co., Virginia on 1/13/1783
to Mrs. Elizabeth Adams Word, widow of Charles Word, who was
killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain, and that he died after 1836,
buried at his old homestead in now Banks Co., Ga., tradition saying
that he had three marriages, the 2nd one to Elizabeth Word, 3rd one
to Andensia Dolba Miller. Elizabeth's daughter, Millie Word, married Richard's
brother, Matthew Hooper. Richard Hooper was buried in the Miller graveyard, near
Prospect Church, in Banks County.

Deed Book 2, page 457, Lunenburg Co., Va. Deeds, 1/7/1752, Abraham Cooke deeded to Obediah Hooper of Lunenburg Co., 309 acres on the southside of the north fork of the Meherrin
River. He had other deed transactions in that county through 1765.
