Henry of Anderson County and Pendleton District, South Carolina



On 2 March 1792, Anderson County Deed Book B, page 22, "John Henry of Pendleton District" deeded 320 acres of land to Thomas Houston, on Great Rocky Creek, a branch of the Savannah River. The 1800 Pendleton District Census lists John Henry: male 10-16, male 16-26, male 45 and over, 2 females under 10, female 25-45, 2 females 45 and over. Anderson County Deed Book I, page 88. John Henry deeded to William Henry 140 acres on Rocky River on 6 October 1807.

The estate of John Henry, Anderson County, S. C. File No. 547, named administrators as William and Catherine Henry on 5 March 1810. The heirs receipts were from: James Henry dated 25 December 180 and Catherine Henry dated 2 June 1815.

Issue:

William Henry, born ca 1776, died 1864. He married Sarah Drucilla Pickens (ca 1778, died 1864), daughter of John Pickens of Pendleton District, whose LWT is recorded in Will Book C, page 85, Anderson County, probated on 27 June 1796. William Henry was a farmer and tavern keeper, belonging to the Presbyterian Church. He was listed on the 1800 Pendleton District Census, 2 males under 10, male 26-45, female under 10, female 26-45. Issue:

  1. Amanda Henry married James Hutchinson. Issue:

    1. Margaret Hutchinson, born 1830 married Dr. Wilson Ligon of Alabama.
    2. Sarah Hutchinson, born 1832 married John M. Redwine.
    3. David Hutchinson, born 1834.
    4. William Hutchinson, Captain, born 1837, died during Civil War.
    5. St. Joseph Hutchinson, born 1839 married Myrtle Harris.
    6. Mary Hutchinson, born 1849 married J. A. Johnson.
  2. Elizabeth Henry married Thomas Beatty of South Carolina.
  3. John Pickens Henry, born S. Hogan, resident of Florida.
  4. Joseph Henry.
  5. Caroline Henry, died unmarried.
