Gordon of Virginia; Gwinnett & Wilkes Counties

Thomas Gordon, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia on 12 December 1758, died 1826 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He married Mary Buffington, born 1760 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, died 1837 in Georgia, a daughter of Joseph Buffington and his wife, Mary (Few) Buffington. According to Allens Genealogy, Thomas Gordon was a son of John Gordon, born 7 February 1734, died 1766 and his wife, Sarah. During the American Revolution, Thomas resided in Gordonsville, Virginia. He served as a Private of the 6th Virginia Regiment, and was given land in Lee County, Georgia, in the 10th district, for his service during the war. Thomas Gordon of Virginia granted a lot in Augusta; 862-1/2 acres in Franklin County; deeded from Thomas Connill dated 25 January 1788. On 26 April 1786, Richard Call of Augusta deeded to Thomas Gordon of Petersburg, Virginia, merchant and Thomas Connill of Augusta, merchants in common, land. On 1 May 1787, Thomas Gordon of Petersburg, Virginia, merchant, deeded to William Kennedy and George Parker of Charleston, South Carolina (all Richmond County, Georgia deeds). Thomas Gordon died on 23 January 1826 and was buried about 7 miles east of Stone Mountain Georgia, his grave being marked by the DAR. Issue:[1]

Alexander Gordon, married on 30 August 1780 in Wilkes County, Susanna Terrel. He purchased land in Wilkes County, Georgia from Nathaniel Bulloch and his wife, Mary, 400 acres on Kettle Creek and on the waters of the Little River, adjoining the land of Joel Phillips land, on 21 August 1787. In 1796 Wilkes County, he served an Action for Debt against the estate of Boswell Bridgeman. On 11 April 1783, Alexander Gordon and his wife, Susannah, deeded 350 acres of land on Kettle Creek to Joel Terrell. And on 22 October 1787, William Pollard and his wife, Alecy, deeded to Alexander Gordon, 350 acres on Kettle Creek. Oglethorpe County Will Book B, page 129, LWT of Alexander Gordon, dated 23 April 1813, probated 2 July 1816, named his wife, Susannah; son-in-law, Samuel Gardner; and daughter, Frances Roy Bullock, the wife of Hawkins Bullock.

Few Gordon, born 1797, died 1857, married Clarissa Hardin, the daughter of Henry Hardin, a Revolutionary War Soldier. Few Gordon was listed in the Rockbridge district of Gwinnett County on the 1850 Census as a farmer. Their only son: Dr. James M. Gordon, born 21 April 1821 in Gwinnett County.
Samuel Gordon, died 1805 in Jefferson County, Georgia, married Sarah. His LWT dated 1805 in Jefferson County Will Book A, named wife and issue: A. John Gordon. B. Mary Gordon. C. Betty Ann Gordon. D. Jane Gordon. E. Sarah Gordon.

Charles Pennington Gordon, born 1791 in Wilkes County, died 8 October 1836 in Georgia, married on 10 June 1810, Barbara Gailbraith. "The three Gordon brothers, Charles, James and Thomas, emigrated from Gwinnett County to Crawford Springs in 1836. They bought large tracts of land adjoining each other. The land of James Gordon included the spring. His first home was located in the fork field. It was not until the latter part of the 50s that he built the brick house above the spring, which is now owned by his great-grandson, Thomas Gordon Hunt. It was just above the spring that the Indians had a council cabin; a double loghouse. It was near the spring that years later when the Civil War was brewing the young men of the section came yogether and organized a company of 110 men with Clark Gordon as captain, William Gordon, 1st Lt. They served with distinction during the war, their captain being a Colonel at the close."
