Barry of Spartanburg County
The Barry family originated in Ireland, but first settled in Pennsylvania, thence going to South Carolina ca 1760. Tradition says that the family in Pennsylvania consisted of five sons and five daughters. Three sons came to Spartanburg with Charles Moore, Andrew, Richard and John, while the other, James, settled in York County, South Carolina. The three brothers, Andrew, Richard and John, all settled on the Tyger River, near the home of Charles Moore.
Captain Andrew Barry, born in 1746, married Margaret Moore, daughter of Charles Moore. His tombstone in the Moore Cemetery shows that he died on June 17, 1811, aged 65 years. He served as an elder in the Nazareth Presbyterian Church. Issue:
