Ballenger of Virginia and South Carolina
Edward (Neddie) Ballenger served in the Revolutionary War and was wounded at the siege of Augusta, was in the battle of Cowpens and many others. He was described as being six feet in statue, kind and hospital to his friends, brave and fearless in battle and uncompromising with the Tories. He married Pleasant Lewis, a daughter of David and Elizabeth (Lockart) Lewis and they had seven children, viz:

- Presley Ballenger married Nancy Dodd.
- Larkin Ballenger married Elizabeth Wood.
- Rebecca Lavina Ballenger married Henry Cothran.
- Edward J. Ballenger.
- Elizabeth Ballenger married William White.
James Ballenger, the brother of Edward, married Dorcas Dodson in Viginia and had issue:
- John Ballenger married Alsie Leachman.
- James (Wagoner Jimmie) Ballenger, born 11 June 1780, married twice, first to Judith Foster and had five children and second to Susan Davis.
- William Ballenger married first to Miss Wilson and second to Polly Wingo.
- Edward (Neddie) Ballenger. Emigrated to Missouri.
- Elijah Ballenger. Emigrated to Missouri.
- Frances Ballenger.
- Margaret Ballenger.
- Tabitha Ballenger.
