Aultman of Orangeburg District
John Dawson Aultman was born ca 1775 in Orangeburg, South carolina. His parents were of English stock and traveled from Virginia to
south Carolina when he was still a child. He was married to Caron ca 1796 and established a farm in South Carolina where
they raised most of their children. He was a soldier during the War of 1812. The family left South Carolina about 1821 to settle
in the newly created Crawford County, Georgia and tradition has it that they were among the first white settlers to the county.
John died in Crawford county in December of 1876, havinglived to the ripe old age of 104 years. Known issue:
- Hiram Aultman removed to Worth County, Georgia from Crawford county about 1840. He was a farmer and agriculturist. He married (1)
Lydia Simmons by him he had six chidren and (1) Claris Gillis, the daughter of John Gillis and his wife, Mrs. Rosanna (Hamilton
Calhoun) Gillis.
- Emanuel LaFayette Aultman, the youngest son, was the tax collector in Crawford County. Emanuel, called Manny, purchased
the old home place in Crawford County and died there. He was married to (1) Maary Turner and (2) Mrs. Maude (Moore) Rogers.
