MINUTES OF THE WELSH NECK BAPTIST CHURCH 1737-1841

Origin of the Church:

" In the year 1737 a party of immigrants from the Welsh Tract in the State of Delaware removed to Pee Dee River South Carolina, which place they designated the Welsh Neck in remembrance of their former residence."

Church Membership Roll

"The following are the names of the individuals who composed this party which was embodied into a church, viz:" Constitution January 1738: "In January 1738 the above named brothers were constituted a Church in The Baptist Church of Christ at the Welch Neck." The following pages contain as much of the proceedings of said church as have escaped the ravages of time (excerpts only are given herewith). It is a subject of regret that so much valuable information has been lost, but as the deficiency can be supplied by no human effort, the remainder should be treasured with more care.

First Pastor: Philip James, son of James James, Esq. was the first pastor. Ordained 1743. Died 1753. Rev. John Brown; Rev. Joshua Edwards, 6 years; Rev. Robert Williams. With this we have some account of the records of the Church. The records previously have been lost.

List of Members March 12, 1759 (others were mentioned, baptized, received, etc. and have been added with an asterick to show they were not listed on the 1759 roll)
