Richard Simpson settled in Caswell County in 1782 when he received a Land Grant (No. 335) from the State of North Carolina for 200 acres of land on Stony Creek adj. Robert Sorrell. He died in 1786, his Last Will and Testament dated January of 1786 and naming his wife, Mary and children, viz:

- Sarah Simpson.
- Elizabeth Simpson.
- Mary Ann Simpson.
- Lydia Simpson.
- Ede Simpson.
- Nancy Simpson.
- Susanna Simpson married Barton.
