Setzer Genealogy
Johannes Adam Setzer was born ca 1706 and was from Mainz, Germany. He had two known sons, viz: Michael Setzer and Jacob Setzer (1730-before 1780).
Jacob Setzer, born 1730 in Germany, died before 1780 in Catawba County, North Carolina, was married to Mary Povey in Lincoln County, North Carolina. By her he had three known children, viz:
- John Setzer, born 1754 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, died 28 March 1822, buried in the Old St. Paul's Churchyard in Lincoln County.
- Jacob Setzer, born 1756 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, died 1834 in Franklin County, Georgia.
- Adam Setzer, Revolutionary War Soldier, was born 1758 in that part of Burke County, North Carolina which later became known as Lincoln County and died 29 Aug 1843 in Caldwell County, North Carolina, buried in the Littlejohn Methodist Church Cemetery, near Gamewell in Burke County. He enlisted from Burke County and was the stepson of Conrad Mingus. In 178a Adam served as a militiaman and Indian spy in Major Joseph McDowell's regiment; Capt. William Friselle and was stationed for two months at Davidson's Fort on the western frontier. He was drafted again in 1781 as corporal and served on the Wilmington expedition under General Rutherford and Coloonel Charles McDowell. When he died, his pension was headed up Caldwell County. Adam was married at the age of twenty three years and had two known children, viz: William and Adam Setzer, Jr. He was married to Elizabeth (1762-3 May 1849) Issue:
- John Setzer, born 1781 in Burke County.
- Lawrence Setzer, born 1785 in Burke County.
- Polly Setzer, born 1787 in Burke County.
- Henry Setzer.
- Adam Setzer, born 1789 in Burke County, died in Floyd County, Kentucky.
