Rogers


Richard Rogers died in 1678 in Surry Co., Virginia. (date of his LWT) From a deed by his grandson, William Rogers, Jr. (see below), Richard Rogers owned land in Surry County which was located by the Deep Bottom, the Collonails New Road from Burken Island Bridge, the line of the said Nicholas Procter and the Great Branch. (Surry Co.) The instruments listed below designate three of his children, viz: Richard Rogers, John Rogers, and William Rogers.
17 Sept 1687, Apprenticeship of Richard Rogers, orphan or Richard Rogers, deceased, to John Moring until he shall come of age. (Surry Co. Deeds, Wills #4 1687-1694).

3 Feb 1692, John Rogers, son of Richard Rogers, late of Southwarke Parish, deceased, to Benjamin Harrison, Merchant, for 3500 pds of tobacco, 100 acres that descended to John Rogers by the Will of Richard Rogers, deceased, dated 27 Mar 1678, land on the Upper Chipoakes Creek at Cabin Point, bounded by Byrd's Mill Dam. (Surry Co. Deeds, Wills #4 1687-1694).

5 Nov 1700, William Rogers, son of Richard Rogers, deceased, late of Southwarke Parish, to William Edwards, carpenter, of the same, for 2000 pds. tobacco, 100 acres near Upper Chipoakes Creek, said land coming to William Rogers by the Will of his father dated 27 Mar 1678, bounded by the King's Highway, Mr. William Cocke, Benjamin Harrison, Esq., the Seven Springs Branch and the Southern Run Swamp. Elizabeth Rogers, the wife of William Rogers, relinquished her right of dower. (Surry Co. Deeds, Wills #6 1694-1709).
William Rogers was b. 1657 in Surry Co., Virginia, d. 10 May 1727 in Surry Co., m. 7 Sept 1686 in Surry Co., Elizabeth Cartwright (1678-1727), the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Cartwright. On 6 August 1686, Colonel William Rogers stated that he had received from Hezekiah Bunnell the estate due his wife, Elizabeth Rogers. (Surry Co. Deeds, Wills, #3 (1684-1687). In 1686 William and Joseph Rogers were listed as owing debts to the Estate of Thomas Jordan, deceased, Surry Co., Va. Wills #3 (1684-1687).

5 Jan 1690, a deed between Joshua Procter and his wife, Katherine of Southwarke Parish to Edward Newby, 450 acres were deeded between Johnchekockon Swamp and the main Blackwater in Southwarke Parish. The land is 1/2 of the patent for 900 acres granted to William Rogers "and myself" on 20 April 1685 and adjoins Robert Warren and Robert Owen. (Surry Co. Deeds, Wills #4 (1687-1694).

William Rogers (On 15 Jul 1728, William Rogers, Jr. of the lower parish in Surry Co. deeded to Richard Procter of the same, 200 acres in Southwarke Parish, being part of a patent taken up by my father,William Rogers, Sr, deceased, and willed to him by his father, bounded by the Deep Bottom, the Collonails New Road from Burken Island Bridge, the line of the said Nicholas Procter and the Great Branch.

Joseph Rogers died 18 Feb 1752 Northampton Co., North Carolina, (LWT) and had issue: Aaron; Isham; Michael; Sarah; Mary; Joseph, b. 1716 Surry Co., Va., d. 1791 Northampton Co., North Carolina; Drury; John (1723/25-1779); Faith (20 Aug 1740-1797); and Reuben (1 Nov 1735 Surry Co., Va., d. 1829 Ga.)

Drury Rogers's estate was administered 2/15/1791 Wilkes Co. Ga., with Tabitha Rogers, widow, and Brittain Rogers, his son, admrs. Drury Rogers was b. in Surry Co., Va. 1733/1737. 2/3/1773 he sold his land of 147 acres in Johnston Co., N. C. and removed to Ga., making application for land before Ceded Lands Commission, Wilkes Co. Ga., 10/15/1773, stating he had wife, 3 sons, 5 daus, from 13 to 1 year of age. 11/8/1773 he was granted 300 acres on Ogeechee River, between Poplar Creek & Camp Creek. 8/24/1774 signed a protest repudiating resolutions passed 8/10/1774 by the hot-headed patriots of the coast, Volume I, pp. 28. In 1779 he was apptd J.P Wilkes Co. Ga. Received land grants in Washington Co., 250 and 287 1/2 acres in 1784 for service as Revolutionary War Soldier. His son, Brittain, listed as refugee soldier, and Burwell Rogers, soldier. 1793 tax digest, Wilkes Co. lists Tabitha Rogers, 200 acres, 7 slaves. LWT of Drury Rogers in Wilkes WS DD, P. 79-80, burned. However, the issue of Drury and Tabi Rogers are nam.,d in the LWT of Tabitha Rogers, P. 91, W8 1792-1801, dtd 10/28/1793, pvd 2/11/1794. Returns made on her est. dtd 7/6/1797, name Brittain, Michael [pd for his tuition], sam'.lel, John, Samuel Stokes and John Rimas, receipts. Issue:
