Reid Genealogy
The progenitor of the family was Andrew Reid from the highlands of Scotland who died in Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. He was married to Magdalene McDowell, a daughter of Samuel McDowell and had by her at least four children, viz: George Reid; Robert Reid; Samuel Reid; and Alexander Reid, all born in the Scottish highlands. The family migrated in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and finally to Rowan County, North Carolina.
Alexander Reid, son of Andrew, died 1777 in Rowan County, North Carolina; his LWT was dated 11 Jan 1775. He was married to Margaret McCay who died probably between 1778 and 1785 in Rowan County. Issue:
- Captain Samuel Reid, the son of Alexander Reid and his wife, Margaret (McCay) Reid, was born 8 Jul 1728 in Ulster, Ireland and died 1810 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia, buried in the old homeplace cemetery. He was married in 1754 in Rowan County, North Carolina to Agnes Kay (1736-1797). Issue:
