Ratliff of Haywood County
Moses Ratliff came to Buncombe County, North Carolina from Rowan County about 1800, and removed to Haywood County in 1810, settling in Beaverdam (near today's Canton, N. C.)
Abraham Ratliff, son of Moses, settled in Waynesville in the valley of the east prong of Raccoon Creek (Ratliff Cove) where he raised three sons and four daughters. Issue:
- Jeremiah Ratliff married Abigail Chambers, a daughter of Elihu Chambers and by her had four children, biz: Eliza who married Benjamin Edwards of Bethel; J. Newton who married Mary Rogers; Margaret who married Noah Francis; and Polly who married Dow Evans.
- James Ratliff.
- Albert Ratliff was married to Sarah Patton by whom he had five children, viz: Moses Ratliff married Margaret Rogers, died during the Civil war in a yankee prison at Camp Douglas; McCon Ratliff, also a Confederate soldier, married Elmira Jones, resided Ratliff Cove; James Ratliff, also a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas; Jeremiah Ratliff, confederate soldier, married Puss Battle; Charity Ratliff married James Welch.
