Patton Genealogy
William Patton was born ca 1742 and resided on Coldwater Creek in Rowan County, North Carolina where he died on 23 June 1818. He was married to Hannah Brandon, a daughter of John Brandon, Jr. and his wife, Mary (Cathy) Brandon. Issue:
- Samuel Patton, born 18 Oct 1761 in Coldwater Creek in Rowan County, died 18 Oct 1851 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, married Mary Alexander. He enlisted in the Revolutionary War from Rowan County in 1778 under Capt. Lopp of General Rutherford's Brigade and marched to Purysburg, South Carolina where he served in a company commanded by Colonel George Lytle and Major Harris. He acted as a scout for three months, marching to Augusta, Georgia, then to Brier Creek to join the forces of General John Ashe. He was present at the defeat of the Americans at Brier Creek on March 3, 1779 when his unit retreated across the Savannah River to join forces with General Rutherford's Brigade stationed nearby. Patton participated in a number of skirmishes during his service and towards the end of the war was serving as an Indian spy or scout. After the war, he resided in Burke County for 18-20 years; then removed to Buncombe County, where he applied for a pension in 1832. Issue>
